Key Features
  • Reduces Highlights and Lowers Contrast
  • Softens Wrinkles and Blemishes
  • Creates a Soft Quality of Light
  • ColorCore Technology
The Tiffen 77mm Black Pro-Mist 1/4 Filter helps to reduce the value of the highlights while slightly lowering the overall contrast. This filter is especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes. While designed for use with movies, this filter can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or soft focus filter, Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image. The 1/4 density provides more contrast and highlight reduction than the 1/8, but less than the 1/2, while still allowing for a soft, pastel-like quality of light.

It will be your secret sauce in interviews, weddings or food shots. At 1/4 it will give you a sleek touch of halation that improve the overall quality.

Nice softening effect for skin tones.

It cuts the edge off extra sharp video which is in most modern cameras these days. Smooths out wrinkles but not so much to be obvious. In fact for blemished or wrinkly skin I would almost like to try the 1/2 version.

Excellent filter

I wanted to buy a NISI 4x5.45, but it turned out to be very expensive for me. This one is just right. I use adapter rings for different lenses. I recommend

The best diffusion?

There are a handful of great diffusion filters-- glimmerglass, black satin-- but this is my go-to. It has what to my eye most resembles the light scattering that happens with vintage glass. I've tried a lot of vintage glasson my BMPCC4K, from Canon FD to c-mount Angenieux to old Russian lenses, but all the lens adapters and support is such a hassle they're just not practical to use day-to-day. I would much rather put this filter on a Meike and shoot with a modern, reliable, standardized kit. I especially like how Black Pro-Mist responds to highlights. I would be reluctant to use this in a higher rating (1/2, say) because it starts to look too hazy for my taste. This one's the sweet spot. It gives just a little bit of bloom without sacrificing detail. I love it.

The 1/4 and 1/8 remove the edge with a slight local diffusion and without blurring the crispness of images, give them a slight softer or warmer touch. Like...a little more natural.

Which thread size should I purchase for a Sony 24-70mm 2.8?
Asked by: Lawrence
If you have a Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Lens, this takes a 82mm filter. We recommend that you look your lens up on the B&H website and check the specifications to be 100% sure of the filter size.
