Tiffen Black Pro-Mist Overview

The Tiffen 82mm Black Pro-Mist 1/4 Filter helps to reduce the value of the highlights while slightly lowering the overall contrast. This filter is especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes. While designed for use with movies, this filter can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or soft focus filter, Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image. The 1/4 density provides more contrast and highlight reduction than the 1/8, but less than the 1/2, while still allowing for a soft, pastel-like quality of light.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image compared to traditional diffusion and soft focus filters.
Especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes.

I bought 8 to 9 filters. Why do you keep sending only problematic products? If I order from another country, do I only pick the problematic products and send them? Why do you keep having problems?

Tiffen's BPM 1/8 is a very beautiful filter I wish I had purchased ages ago. Performs as advertised; reduces the digital edge, etc. I plan to purchase the 1/4 soon.

I do portraits at night. The filter works very well for the background, city lights but it blurs the portrait subject. Better off without it, for portraits. But, its a good effect otherwise.

Black Pro-Mist is an amazing filter. I have both the 1/8 and 1/4 strengths. Both are great and produce a beautifully diffused effect. Love them both.

For the price I paid I expected mint product in sealed packaging. The case was not sealed and there was a little dust and smear on the filter. It looked use. I can barely notice any difference with this filter.

I have the 1/4, but I wish I got the 1/8, because the halation effect is too much for me, especially when there's a practical light in the background (street lights, or any kind of indoor lights). However, when you don't have these things in the background, I was very pleased with the skin softening effect on the 1/4. It looks especially good in black & white video or photo.

I have the Tiffen variable ND filter... is it possible to put this Black Pro-Mist 1/4 filter on top of the variable ND filter or below it... or do I need extra parts to do the job?

You can stack the filter in front or behind the ND without any additional accessories.
