Ultrasone HFI-450 overview

  • 1Description

The HFI-450 hi-fi headphones from Ultrasone provide detailed, lifelike sound in a lightweight and comfortable package, ideal for use in project studios. The padded, adjustable headband and cushioned around-ear earcups provide a stable and comfortable fit. The earcups help to block out ambient noise so you can focus on your music. Ideal for use at home or in a studio, the HFI-450 can fold down into itself for compact portability.

The headphones feature large Mylar drivers to produce a wide frequency response. Ultrasone's S-Logic Natural Surround Sound System adds distance and direction to your audio without the aid of extra equipment. This creates more of a "live" feeling during your listening experience, making it seem as though the audio is surrounding you, rather than being piped directly to the sides of your head.

In addition to this "surround" experience, the S-Logic technology allows an up to 40% lower dB output (3 to 4 dB) for the same loudness sensation, which may help reduce hearing damage and fatigue; a must for those who spend long periods of time wearing headphones. The HFI-450 ships with a soft bag and 1/4" adapter.

40mm Mylar drivers for high-quality sound, ideal for use in project studios
S-Logic Natural Surround Sound System for a more "live" sound and safer volume levels
Lightweight foldable design
Around-ear earcups for comfort and noise isolation

    Ultrasone HFI-450 reviews

    HFI-450 Closed-Back Stereo Hi-Fi Headphones is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Quality build I've had these headphones for about 6 years now and they are one of the best electronic purchases I've ever made. The build quality is outstanding. I don't know how many times I rolled over the cord (in my office chair) or dropped these on a hard surface and they don't show any signs of wear. They represent sound in a very natural/real way. I purchased them for audio recording/mastering, but I use them daily for music, tv, and video games because I know they will provide a good sound quality and will stand up to my abuse. A very very good purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound. These headphones have a crystal clear sound and great image and allow you to hear the mix acurately and with less ear fatigue. I use them for recording. I would probably go for the more expensive model next time to get the removable wire feature but this model is an excellent value for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the Best Under $100 Okay, let's start with the build quality. It's very superb. The plastic on the top headband is rugged and very tough and it feels like the cups can stand some abuse for the long run. The cable is very thick, but not as thick as the Beyerdynamic DTX 910, which is a very good thing. As for the sound quality. I'm not gonna lie. When I first got my Ultrasone HFI-450, I thought that it was broken due to limited bass, but after 24 hours, the bass really started to dig deeper. The bass is capable of digging down to 80 Hz while maintaining great clarity throughout the entire frequency. The bass is energetic, but sounds rounded, so it's best to keep the Bass EQ at low to moderate because if it goes too deep (High) then the bass will eventually distort, but there is really no need to EQ the bass too high because there's plenty of bass after 24 Hours of burn-in. The Midrange is really forward and times seems like placed very close to your ears. The detail of the instruments and vocals is one of the best I've heard Under $100. It's smooth, yet pretty aggressive, although not aggressive enough to become sibilant. The treble is pretty prominent. It is somewhat bright and analytical in nature and tends to sound cold without proper EQ or amping. The best thing to do is to use the Fiio E6 or any amps related to it to warm up the treble, but not to the point that it'll become dark and slightly muddy. The S-Logic function of the HFI-450 is actually pretty impressive. The instrument separation is actually very good for it's price range, but as for accuracy, there are better headphones out there that do the job at its' own price range, but not many. The Beyerdynamic DTX 910 I own is better in accuracy and imaging, but isn't ahead by much. The Soundstage/Headstage isn't so bad for a Closed Headphone. It's sounds open and at times becomes a bit reverberant (probably due to the S-Logic/Closed-Back Combination). Overall, the Ultrasone HFI-450 is a very good Headphone due to the sonic qualities and build quality. If you can find this set for under $100, then you got yourself a HUGE bargain. This Headphone set is great for Multiple genres. I have tested them on Trance, Techno, Dubstep, Hard Dance, Hardcore, Hardstyle, Metal, Hard Trance, Rock, Ambient and even Hip Hop and it has proven itself worthy to stay in my collection of Headphones and IEMs for a long time. The only problems are the cable length and the clamping force, but shouldn't be too much of an issue if you have a cable wrap and the clamping force eventually loosens up a bit. So therefore those Cons are temporary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect balance Although they are completely different headphones, the 450s remind me of the Sennheiser PX100 - they manage to make every kind of recording/file sound good, even the poorly ripped ones. That and they are just plain fun to listen to. But the 450s are in a higher league when it comes to clarity in highs and mids, obviously. Bass is well controlled yet still has good impact. You'd think these cans would retail at a higher price, but it's just right at $. Excellent value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic I recently got these headphones to replace my last pair of Scosche earbuds that broke. I use them when I listen to my music library on my computer at home or on my iPhone while I'm away. The sound quality is astounding. Every aspect of the music could be heard. The bass is rich and natural, but not overdone. The music seems to surround and embrace you instead of having an in-ear feel. The headset tones down surrounding noise nicely. The set also folds nicely and fits easily in the given case. The fit is not tight, but it is awkward at first and takes some getting used to. Also, the set certainly is not the most appealing in looks. The cord is also quite long (around 9ft.) and this is annoying early on. However, a rubber band or twist tie can fix the problem. Overall, this is a great headset.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Quality These 'phones were bought to complement the Blue Yeti mic I'd purchased, so that I could monitor sound via the Yeti's integral outlet jack. All my other headphones were USB-connected, and connecting via the Yeti was a clean and simple arrangement. The first thing I noticed was the build quality of these headphones. Excellent and well-designed. They are definitely a firm fit on the head, and maybe this will ease off with time and use, but they certainly take hold of one's cranium!! That said, they fit beautifully over one's ears and - bottom line - the sound quality is excellent - clear, with no outside interference. I am no professional in this realm, so this is very much my amateur impression!! Make of it what you will. I like these 'phones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as expected I've only had these cans for a couple of weeks and to date I am completely satisfied with their performance. I have not a/b'd them with other units so my comments shod be taken with that in mind. They are very comfortable on my head and ears and eliminate most outside noise. I wore them on a 10 hour flight to watch a movie (Deadpool - hilarious) and to help me sleep after the film and I slept better than I ever have in an airplane. I listen to a wide range of music from classical to electronic to classic rock and even Lyle Lovett. These seem to hold up well to all of these genres. I can't say how many hours of use they have seen to date but I do believe the sound has evolved a bit with use. I find them to be very even across the audible range with a pleasant warmth. I would love to see some metal in the construction but nonetheless they seem well built and have so far held up well during my travels in Africa.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Headphones all around These headphones are perfect for nearly any use. I can use them for sound design and on set sound production as well as just listening to music. I love the fact that there is a 1/4 adapter that attaches to the built in 1/8 jack. The sound is excellent and the noise canceling function works extremely well. The only annoyance is the fact that there is no case that I can find, but the headphones do compress very well for storage. Also the cord is extremely long, which is a double edged sword but not terribly inconvenient.
