Tiffen 52CLR overview

  • 1Description

The Tiffen 52mm Clear Filter is a simple, clear filter with a 1x filter factor and is designed to provide general protection for your lens. This optically clear filter does not affect the overall image quality while helping to prevent dust, scratches, moisture, and other elements from reaching or damaging your lens. This filter features standard coating for helping to reduce flare and improve light transmission.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology; a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting to precision metal rings.

Clear filter offers general protection for your lens against the elements.
Standard coating for lessening lens flare and improving light transmission.

    Tiffen 52CLR reviews

52mm Clear Filter is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cheap Insurance Policy As clear filters go, this one works quite well for the price. It threads easily and doesn't bind. There is no appreciable degradation in image quality under normal shooting conditions. It does seem to be more prone to ghosting when working against hard light than more expensive filters of this type. If this is a concern for you, I would recommend spending the $20-30 on a multi-coated filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent buy! @used with: Nikkor 18-55, 55-200, 50, 20, 300, wide filter on D90 and F50I browsed B&H's selection of clear filters only for protecting my lenses. Some of this same type were much more expensive, yet I went with this model on a budget. To my surprise though, when I tested this filter with my lenses, there was absolutely no loss of image quality or speed. No alterations on image saturation or overall value. This is a great filter for protecting lenses and seams to be built very sturdily. I will buy this filter again next time I need one.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A step down from B + W Overall it works fine, however, I am concerned about its overall quality. Compared to my B+W equivalent, the Tiffen just feels cheaper. It was also harder to get to screw correctly onto my lens. It really wanted to cross thread. This Tiffen filter also came very dirty and hazy. It was a disappointment. I will be buying more B+W filters from now on, I think it is worth the extra $10.00.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If all you need is protection. The reason I purchased this clear filter was to protect my lens from accidental damage and keep the lens glass protected from dirt and dust - period. The reason I did not purchase a general skylight or UV filter to serve the same purpose, is because I didn't want a filter that would affect the quality of light entering the lens, thus reducing the quality of the image. The Tiffen filter arrived securely packed in its plastic re-useable pop open storage case. The build quality of the filter is top notch, featuring a solid metal screw thread ring and ultra clear solid glass. The filter threads perfectly to my Canon 50mm f1.8 lens, where it will stay permanently attached. Having a ten year warranty and made in the USA, from my good experience using this filter, I would recommend a Tiffen filter without hesitation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cheap Protection! I use this on my 50mm f1.8 Nikon. It does a great job. It is clear so no special effects are used. What you see through the view finder is what you get. If you got the bucks then spring for the upgaded Tiffen clear or even the Hoya or Nikon. This has kept a lot of dust out of my lens.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does what it claims It's just a simple lens protector for me. Maybe that's a waste, its' not an expensive lens, but it's not an expensive filter either. Biggest complaint is that the threads aren't very deep, so the lens cap for my Nikon D3100 doesn't fit very securely on the filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid as always Tiffen always makes solid filters and this is a great piece of protection for your lens! Still transmits color super well and has almost no huge impact on your final image. Purchase either this or a UV filter to protect your lense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lens protection This protected my lens and I feel much more comfortable cleaning the filter rather than having to clean the lens itself. From the photos I've taken so far, I can tell no difference with the clear filter in place. Exactly what I wanted.
