This JMI Telescopes MOTOFOCUS is a motorized electronic focusing mechanism that affixes to the Celestron CPC 1100 telescope.  The CPC 1100 has an orange ring at the base of the focuser knob and a 21.8mm diameter knob.  It installs easily, and can be quickly detached for transport.

MOTOFOCUS operates off of a supplied 9-volt battery; with a bit of practice, you'll be able to adjust your focuser in increments much smaller than the width of a business card.  In particular, springing for the MOTOFOCUS gives you much more enjoyable high-magnification viewing from your scope, with finer control over the image and much less user-induced vibrations.

If you opt for it exclusively at the time of this purchase, you can also have a numerical expression of your focuser position.  The economical DFC Digital Focus Counter is an accurate 3-digit mechanical counter which "piggybacks" upon the MOTOFOCUS, and requires no batteries or hand controllers beyond what you'll already be using.

The much more sophisticated DRO Digital Readout is a 4-digit LED that can attach to MOTOFOCUS and other JMI Telescopes focusers.  Beyond a finer expression of focus position, the DRO also offers the capacity to be controlled remotely via a computer as well as to be removed and reattached without needing recalibration.

If choosing the DFC or DRO upgrades, you must do so at the time of this purchase-they cannot be retroactively fitted to the MOTOFOCUS.

Note: DFC or DRO upgrades are only available at the time of initial purchase.

MOTOFOCUS Electric Telescope Focusing Motor is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great Easy to install? Yes. Instructions are AOK. The thing gets installed in less than 15 minutes. And yes, you have to put tape on the knob so that the motor gets a good grip. Does it satisfies expectations? Yes, 3 focusing speeds with auto-acceleration. Is the product overview accurate? Yes. No more touching the telescope when focusing. NO MORE VIBRATIONS. Great time saving when doing astrophotography. Notes - The thing is rather long (several inches) but should not forbid you to use a filter wheel on an 11 tube. - The tork of the motor makes sometimes the field of view slightly move (on the zoomed in image on your computer). But really not an issue. Could alternatively be the mirror moving itself. Tip The cable is twisted and short. Adding a 6 feet extension RCA stereo cable works. I already was using a JMI MOTOFOCUS for the Orion STARMAX 127. If you are a beginner/early intermediate, this will satisfy all your initial needs for quite some time. Learning curve is zero. If you are an advanced user or are not afraid to break the piggy bank, you will want to rather go with the Moonlite focuser and have your mirror locked. Something I'll probably do in the future...
