The Formatt 127mm 81 Color Conversion Filter controls the bluish coloration that affects daylight film. It can also remove excessive blue from the effects of electronic flash. It's good for general scenics when the photographer wishes to remove the bluish cast from open shade or just add warmth to the photograph.
The 81 series of filters is available in the following grades: 81, 81A, 81B, 81C, 81D and 81EF with 81EF having the greatest effect.
Note: Whereas the 81 Series of filters creates a feeling of warmth, the 82 Series creates a feeling of coolness
81 Series Conversion Chart
81 decreases color temperature from 3300 - 3200K
81A decreases color temperature from 3400 - 3200K
81B decreases color temperature from 3500 - 3200K
81C decreases color temperature from 3600 - 3200K
81D decreases color temperature from 3700 - 3200K

Absorbing Cell Technology
The secret to Formatt's consistency in filter design lies in its unique "Absorbing Cell Technology" (A.C.T.); this unique process allows color correct dyes to be applied to optically pure, wafer thin absorbing cells and offers a controllability that ensures the smoothest grad lines and consistent color across the whole filter surface.
This process is revolutionary compared with conventional filter dying techniques by eliminating the need to directly coat the glass surface itself. The repeatable performance gained through A.C.T. ensures that at any time you have to swap like filters for like filters mid shoot, you can do so with confidence with no discernible differences in color or density.
Each filter is guaranteed flatness to a maximum 2-wave value and comes with an individual reading from a laser interferometer. Every filter is carefully verified with a densitometer and spectrophotometer to ensure consistent and accurate transmission, before leaving the factory - the result is an absolute purity of image that eliminates any unwanted colorcast caused by conventional greenish soda-lime glass.
