Nikon Capture NX 2 Photo Editing Software is a full-featured non-destructive photo editing program that provides photographers powerful tools to quickly and easily edit their photographs, including the highest quality RAW (NEF) conversions from your Nikon camera. Plus it fully integrates with all Nikon software including Camera Control Pro 2, Image Authentication Software, Transfer and ViewNX. Plus Capture NX 2 has maintained all of the functionality of Capture NX, but has added improvements to the usability of those functions.

Please note that version 2.2 is not upgradeable to 2.4.3. You will be required to download and install the latest version from Nikon's official website and authenticate it.

Please note that this software is no longer supported by Nikon and is not compatible with the latest Nikon camera models (such as D810) or operating systems (such as Windows 10).

Award-winning U Point Technology

U Point technology uses Control Points to help realize results envisioned in the editing process. Using NEF files for optimal performance, Control Points allow photographers to select and isolate an entire image or selected areas within the image for enhancement, Furthermore, those enhancements can be instantly cancelled or added with ease, without compromising the original quality of the image, and U Point control is perfectly compatible with each NEF file's Instruction Set.

Selection Control Points

Now you can selectively edit photographs without the need to manually outline or mask the area for editing. Simply place a Selection Control Point anywhere on the photograph then choose from almost any adjustment such as D-Lighting, Unsharp Mask or Noise Reduction, while limiting the "reach" of that adjustment to just the selected area.

Auto-Retouch Brush

Capture NX 2 adds an automatic retouch tool to its image editing toolbox allowing users to seamlessly remove blemishes, dust and other distracting elements from photographs while maintaining the integrity of the image.

Shadow/Highlight Adjustment

With just a simple slider adjustment you can easily open up shadows or recover blown-out highlights. Highlight recovery is most effective for RAW (NEF) files however it will work with JPEG and TIFF files as well.

Redesigned Interface

The latest version includes a number of improvements to the user interface including the addition of Customizable Workspaces, Improved Toolbar function and layout, Improved Edit List functionality, a newly designed image browser featuring a Favorites Folder, and Improved Image Resolution adjustment controls.

Nikon Capture NX 2 Reviews

NOT THE BEST OR WORSE

I've been looking for a Lightroom alternative but this is not it. It's not intuitive and the menu take's an immense learning curve. I've had this full version for several months and still struggle with all the controls. To be fair, for those who use Windows you may have an easier time because I'm coming from an Apple laptop to Windows. It's Okay but I'm still looking.

Shocked that it won't open an NEF file

Downloaded the free trial. Tried to open an NEF file on my SD card. No go. Moved the files to my external hard drive. No go. Copied over to the hard drive on my PC. Also, No go. I can't believe in this day and age, a piece of software would perform like this. I have read others reporting the same issue. JUNK!!!!!

Nikon's NX2 Program

By Robert

I am an advanced amature & I bought Nikon's NX2 program to augment my recent D4s camera body purchase. As some background, I have used Nikon's Origional Capture program for ten years to process my D2x RAW photos, a program that I liked and have used to post process literally hundreds of thousands of photos. I chose NX2 on the recomendation of a photo discussion forum comment. I had looked at a version of Lightroom & wasn't taken with it's complexity, although it would probably do a good job. I also chose NX2 because I am trying to bridge work between two computers, one running XP Pro & the other running Windows 10. Lightroom would not run on the older XP operating system. This program runs fine on both operating systems, no crashes, no slowness or bogging down. My real issue with NX2 probably lies with the new D4s files rather than NX2. It runs on the XP operating system & will recognize the newer RAW files of the D4s, ....but in the origional version it will not recognize them in RAW form. I believe that to be so because it will not offer me a sliding exposure tool when processing. I have to lighten dark photos by using a brightness & contrast adjustment rather than using an exposure adjustment. I don't have that issue with RAW files from the older D2x camera body--with those files it then offers an exposure sliding adjustment. When running on the Windows 10 operating system computer, the upgraded version will recognize the D4s RAW files, as well as Picture Control settings ...in essence, it's my problem for trying to continue to run an outdated operating system--but the program will run on it (the newer updated version will not). ALL OF THAT being said, I do like NX2.... This software is fast and is absolutely beautiful. Much of my work is portraits & skin tones and the colors and manipulations can fine tune any photo into a masterpiece (small exageration). One of the features that I do not like is that I don't seem to be able to copy & paste adjustment settings from one photo to another. Each photo requires that I bring each tool up, adjust, and then bring the next tool up, etc. (It appears to be building layers, much like photoshop does.) This has made for a slow work flow, but I have the feeling that I will figure out some shortcut with more use. Again, dealing with skin tones & facial features (I am an oil paint portrat artist), the adjustments are FAST and absolutely beautiful, even on an old computer. One of the nicer features that Nikon has included is a year's worth of free technical assistance. I am hoping that this will include free patches to deal with my current issues. At any rate, Nikon seems to want you to be able to use this program to solve your problems & that means alot to me. As one final note, ....again, I have processed proabably 100,000 D2x photos using Nikon Capture with various upgrades. The new NX2 program can fine tune RAW files to a masterful level & you don't have to be a genius to do it--just have a good eye & a well callibrated monitor. I had every intention of selling my old D2x with the purchase of the new camera body--now I find that the D2x files can be marvelously improved with Nikon's NX2 program.

Capture NX 2 Not Updated to MAC OS X 10.10.3

Nikon Capture NX2 runs on MAC 10.5 or PREVIOUS. This disclaimer is located on the SPECS tab of the B&H product description. It is NOT located in the Capture NX2 User's Manual System Requirements & Installation. However, once the CD is opened for installation, the installation process is quick to say that it will not install!Nikon support says that this product will not be upgraded to OS X 10.10.3.I then tried to install Capture on a three year old mac running 10.7.1. It will not install. This time the error message said Power PC applications are not longer supported.B&H will not accept a return of this product.

I like nikon but not this product so much.

question

What is the version of this software? I see a review mention they got version 2.2, where as latest version is 2.4.7.
Asked by: Sunny
I'm currently running the 60 day free trial ver. 2.4.7 which runs great on my Windows 7 64 bit system for my Nikon D610 photos. I like Capture NX2 so far and am very impressed with the ease of editing raw files, especially the 'color points' feature. I will likely purchase and simply input the key code from the new software into my trial version and be done.

question

Does it work for Macbook Air?
Asked by: Sally S.
Don't by this software. B&H is happy to sell you software that won't work with 99.9% of the computers that are out there. Once you open it you can't get your money back. I will never deal with B&H again. I'm sure they have a lot of customers so it's ok to lose a few.
