    VITEC FS-5 reviews

FS-5 Handle Mount Cradle is rated 2.5 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good to have, but could be improved A handle mount is a necessity for the firestores, but unfortunately the design makes it difficult to adjust the firestore settings when the camera is on a tripod. The mounts are also not designed for quick removal, so do not plan to switch them between cameras readily. Also, the little screws strip easily (one of them was already problematic when we received the mount), and I won't be surprised if they shear off in the future. If you should have to change the battery of the Firestores, it would be impossible due to the crazy design of the firestore battery compartment. Until they come out with another design, I will have to be satisfied with the mount.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly designed The negative reviews of this are accurate: too heavy, too expensive, and too few options for mounting. For a traveling videographer using a Canon XH-A1s, this is an impractical way to mount an FS device. I found an alternative bracket designed and sold by Bracket1. It's lighter weight, less expensive, and with a Manfrotto heavy duty swivel mount fits perfectly in the shoe of an XH-A1s. I'll be returning the Vitec bracket.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the price Apparently this is the only mount for the FS-5 but it doesn't mount to my Canon XH-A1. The mount is too large and hinders the use of the hot shoe. The design is very cheaply made and doesn't justify a $ price tag. I had to return it and I am still looking for something to mount the FS-5 with. For now, I have to have an assistant hold it while I shoot. I do not recommend this product, especially at this price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would buy this again THis holds our FOcus hard drive like a glove. My only wish for improvement would be to have a larger c-brace to attached the bracket to the leg of our tripod. THe c-brace fits nicely on the handle of our Canon GL-2 camcorder. The problem is that some of my staff are too short to be able to see the face of the hard drive. IT would be more convenient if we could attach it to the tripod leg.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from FS-5 Handle Mount For the most part, I like the mount. It is solid and sturdy. Mounted on the handle doesn't throw the balance off, as it would being mounted on the side. So using the GlideCam still works smooth. The SteadyCam also. On a regular tripod, its placement isn't as critical, but holding a XH-A1 with extra weight on one side can be problematic. Overall two thumbs up.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Better than nothing, but not by much The thumbscrews get lost, the clamp doesn't fasten well to tripods, and the two securing arms at the bottom break off easily. This design is absolutely the worst.OTOH, the materials and workmanship are absolutely superb.Any DIY hobbyist can come up with a hillbilly cradle for way less than $$.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stable Fits like a charm and screws in for extra stability. The one thing that makes it difficult to use is the Firewire out conflicts with the spacing available for the hot shoe. But, by removing the strain relief on the Firewire cable, it gives you just enough room to slip your attachment in.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very Over Priced Upgraded from the Focus HDD to the FS units. Needed a cradle to hold it on the camera. It is made of all aluminum & had to modify it so it would mount to the camera. Very over priced by Focus. It is one of those things you have to have. Focus marketing knew what they were doing.
