Kirk LP-46 overview

  • 1Description

The Kirk LP-46 Lens Plate is designed to take the place of the original tripod collar foot of a Nikon 400mm f/2.8 AF-S (I and II) & 600mm AF-S II and VR lenses, and to convert the collar to make it directly compatible with Arca-type quick release clamps, without the need for additional quick release plates. The foot is 1.875" shorter then the original Nikon foot, which helps to lower its center of gravity. Critical mass is also reduced, but the original Nikon design is still maintained, which allows it to still be used as a carrying handle.

Each adapter comes complete with all the necessary hardware and tools to make the conversion.

Machined from 6061T6 aluminum, and anodized to an unscratchable black satin finish.
Double-Dovetail Cross-Section
Double-dovetail design allows attachment of additional accessories to the upper or lower surface of the plate.

    Kirk LP-46 reviews

LP-46 Replacement Arca-Type Quick Release Lens Plate/Foot is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from LP-46 Replacement foot by Kirk This foot completely solved my BIG problem - which was caused by the ridiculously high foot that is supplied by Nikon with their 400mm f/2.8 lens. I truly cannot think of ANY justification for the Nikon foot. It's totally impractical - and I know I'm not the only owner who has expressed these sentiments. I bought the replacement foot to allow me to use the above lens with a CB gimbal (B&H # CUCBGB) as the original foot prevented me achieving a balance with the gimbal. Believe me, top-heaviness is NOT what you want with a gimbal! Frankly, I believe my comments will hold true for this lens with ANY gimbal. I wholeheartedly recommend replacing Nikon's standard foot with the Kirk LP-46. Not only does this foot eliminate top-heaviness, it provides a far more comfortable and sturdy hand hold for the lens when it is dismounted from a gimbal. As an added bonus, the lens (with foot attached) fits in a far smaller case than is needed if the Nikon foot is left in place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit Used on AF-S 600 mm Nikkor. Original foot / handle would not fit into large lens bag. Kirk foot reduces height by nearly 2 and now the whole lens with lens hoods fit into the bag I have. New foot is cheaper than new bag plus the need for the Arca-Swiss plate is eliminated, giving better mounting to gimbal head, as the new foot is compatible with current hardware / A-S mounting. Fifth piece of Kirk hardware I have purchased. All are fully satisfactory, as is B& H service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Excellent long solid and very light weight foot - well designed with lip near the end so the foot/lens doesn't slide out of your hand when carrying the lens by the foot. This foot is very well designed with the curved upper shape to reduced cutting into your hand when carrying by the foot, and I love the fact that Kirk has machined out the aluminum on the underside, so as to reduce weight considerably, but without reducing rigidity. The lighter weight will make it easier if you ever want to hand hold your lens, and I love the fact that this design significantly lowers the center of balance of the lens - so you can use a MUCH smaller and lighter gimbal head. You can probably use a gimbal head about half the weight with this foot, especially compared to slapping an Arca-Swiss plate on the bottom of the stupid mega-tall Nikon dumb plate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As Expected This foot is as expected from Kirk. I particularly like that it lowered the profile (from the bottom of the foot to the top of my Nikon 400mm f2.8lens) by about 1.5 inches. The lend is bulky, to say the least, and this change in profile allows me to fit the lens to my ginbal at closer to the vertical axis of the gimbal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product One you buy 600mm lens this you will need ASAP if you want to take sharp pictures it make huge difference how more stable this lens feels on tripod with this replacement foot. Great product.
