I understand that it gives you varying formats and ratios, but does it also allow you to adjust focal length mm within those formats, as well? If so, is it just a spin and zoom without knowing the mm?

Yes, when you pull it out, it gives you points that match up with a variety of focal lengths and from different camera chip sizes; from 1/3 chip sensors to Anamorphic Sensor (so it includes S16 & S35). I had purchased this viewfinder sight unseen, and I must admit, it is really really small. The image inside is really small. It's handy because of the cost and to use as a basic guide. But it won't give you the image that you'll see through your camera viewfinder.
