The Formatt 43mm Yellow 11 Glass Filter is commonly used for a noticeable increase in contrast with black and white films.

The #11 yellow is a bit more contrasty than the #9. Contrast in black and white is generally controlled by yellow, orange and red filters with red producing the greatest contrast. Moderate changes can be accomplished with yellow which can, generally, bump up the contrast just enough to make the difference between a "muddy" print and an acceptable image.

If used with color film, it will render everything yellow producing a more pronounced surreal effect.

Enhances landscapes, marine scenes and aerial photography with more effect than a Yellow 9 filter
Especially useful for a noticeable increase in contrast between blue sky with clouds and foreground

43mm Yellow 11 Glass Filter for Black and White Film is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lousy craftsmanship Crudely made filter. My copy has a chip in the side of the glass but it was mounted in the metal ring anyway by Formatt Hitech. Look at about 2 o'clock in the photo. It came with a "quality control" stamp of approval on the wrapper, which is funny. It probably will not affect image quality, but it's not acceptable for a nearly $70 filter. Additionally, the threading is somewhat crude and the filter does not screw down flush into my lens (Zeiss ZM). There is no front threading so the lens cap will not stay on when the filter is attached. You do not receive a box to keep the filter in, it comes with a cloth pouch with no drawstring or any way to close it. Finally, the glass was somewhat dirty. I would never purchase this brand again, even if it was the only option for a particular color.
