question

Such an embarrassing question but want to make sure I order all that is needed to work. Buying the SB-910 Flash and want fast recycle and reliability in power. Looking at the battery pack as well. HOW is it used with the 910? Does this attached to the flash? To the camera? Does this pack just charge the batteries and then they go into the 910s battery chamber? I assume rechargeable batteries do not come with it and are purchased separately.

The Nikon SD-9 battery pack is an external battery pack that plugs directly into the SB910 flash. The SB910 flash must have its standard four AA batteries in the flash itself, and this battery pack then increases the flashes power by allowing one to add 4qty or 8qty batteries to the external pack. The extra batteries increase the total amount of shots the flash is capable of shooting, and also helps it to recycle faster. Any type of AA batteries can be used in the battery pack, Ni-MH type are of the best to choose as they have greater longevity and also tend to weigh a bit less.

question

Will this unit work with the Nikon SB 700 flash?
Asked by: David S.
No, the SD-9 battery pack will not work with the SB 700. The SB 700 needs batteries inserted to have power. It does not have any ports to attach any battery packs. Having said that, I am still happy I purchased the SB 700 because it is smaller and easier to pack. Additionally, after working for an extended time, you'll appreciate the lesser weight of the SB 700 (as compared to the 910).

question

Will the SD-9 work with the SB-910 in remote mode? i.e. If I place the 910 on a light stand, and use an SU-800 on camera will the SD-9 still be effective. The reason I ask is that most if not all the third party battery packs for the SB-800 will work on camera, but none will work in the remote mode.
Asked by: Michael
Yes it will. As a professional photographer, I use the SD-9 with Pocket Wizards that way all the time.

question

Does the SD-9 Battery Pack work with the new Nikon SB-5000 flash?
Asked by: Matthew
Yes it should according to the Nikon USA website. When in doubt, always go to the Nikon site, find the product you're looking for and click on the compatibility tab. I haven't tried it with a SB-5000 only used it with SB-900 and SB-910, works great on both.

question

Do any wedding shooters out there use this battery pack along with the Vello battery grip on the D-810/SB5000, or simply use one or the other?
Asked by: Lindsay C.
We use it for weddings, senior pics, family pics, etc. And love it The recycle time is short and battery life is long.

question

I want to use this with either an SB910 or SB5000 - which speedlight would be less prone to overheating with this battery pack?
Asked by: Diego
Hi unfortunately this pack doesnt work with my SB 5000, it works great with the 910 or the 900 and I have no problems with it, the 5000 is a great flash. But is very temperamental Ive had it in for repairs two times in a row and also sadly to say I have his battery pack into Nikon to be fixed right after I bought it. It is working perfectly now though
