    Rode WS7 Reviews

WS7 Deluxe Windshield for the NTG3 Microphone is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for Rode NTG-3 I bought this for my Rode NTG-3 and it fits nicely. It's a little long so there isn't much of the mic showing out the rear end of it, which makes it hard to attach a shock mount. I use a Rycote lyre shock mount which needs about 2 inches of mic to attach to. When fully inserted the NTG-3 has only 1.5 inches sticking out the end of the windshield. I end up attaching the shock mount over the connection between the mic and the XLR cable. The XLR cable plug is approx. the same diameter as the mic so it works. The windshield performs well enough. It's not a good as full blimp, but then it's not as heavy/cumbersome as a full blimp either, and it's better than a foam windshield. It's lightweight so I use it on my DSLR rig. The fur doesn't seem fragile or easy to fall out. It covers the full length of the active end of the mic with all the slots. Overall I'm pleased with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well. I saw the Rode dealer video, showing this WS-7 on an NTG-3 about 2 feet directly in front of a 12 table fan running at fast speed. The op was speaking into the mic and you couldn't hear any wind. Good enough for me, I bought one and am very happy with it. If it has been packed away flat, you should always brush the hairs out as straight as possible to let them do their job. For very high outdoor wind, a Blimp is better but it needs another operator.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as advertised I use this windshield with a Sennheiser ME-80 and it's fits perfectly. I have used this on two jobs and had no problems shielding the microphone which was on the end of a boom pole from both movement wind, and environment wind of at times as high as 5-10 mph. I have noticed very little high frequency loss when using this product. The one drawback is this item has significant weight and hanging on the end of a shotgun microphone being suspended in a band type shock mount, it does weigh the end of the mic a bit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can't beat this for the price I have purchased a couple of these windshields to use when a full blimp isn't needed since they are much more compact and quick. These are much less expensive than going the Rycote windshield route, and while the Rycote may be better, these are much less expensive and perform pretty well. Note that the WS7, when used with a NTG3, needs a pretty short shock mount. The short K-Tek KSSM is perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, affordable run & gun windshield I use this windshield for professional film, tv, and documentary shoots. Great for anything outdoors that doesn't require a blimp and run & gun outdoor to indoor shots. Very effective in mild to medium winds, fits perfect on the NTG3, rubber part feels rugged and seem like it will last a long time. $50-60 cheaper than Rycote softie. My boom op said it feels slightly heavier than the Rycote softie. The extra weight tends to make the Rycote INV-7 mount flex a bit. Would like to use the Rode SM4 shock mount but since the neck tension isn't adjustable I have to look elsewhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works just like a windshield should It works very well. Perfect for the NTG-3 and I am also using one on my Rode VideoMic. I shoot documentaries in developing countries, and the kids are always trying to pet it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from super value works like a champ Needed a fuzzy for my NTG-3, I was slated to record sound for a documentary mostly indoors but at a large convention. I was looking to block additional noise from ventilation units it worked great for indoor moving air. I was shocked when we ran outside after our talent into a wind filled breeze way to watch them unload their vehicle....poof no wind noise all dialog!!! I didn't want to bring my whole zeppelin set up and I'm glad I didn't. The WS7 does the job fine, oh and it fits real nice too!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight Wind Screen It's not as effective as a full blimp, but it offers a great light weight wind protection for light breezes and mild wind. I use it with the Rode NTG-3 and it's a perfect fit.

Would this fit the NTG3 Plus the Rycote InVision INV-HG mkIII shockmount? I am curious because some people have said it doesnt have much room after its on at the end?
    Asked by: Adrian D.
I use mine with an Aston starlight rycote mic clip which looks to be almost the same size. I have to have the mic cable input inside of the clip (I hope that makes sense) in order to get the windshield all of the way on but it does work.
