The Hoya 55mm HD UV Filter is a general use, clear filter designed to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. Aside from the reduction of unwanted blue casts, no additional coloration or contrast is created, and adjustments to exposure are not required while using this filter. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections while providing over 99.35% light transmission, eight layers of anti-reflection coatings are applied to both sides of the glass for a total of 16 layers of coating. These coatings offer a high degree of protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than uncoated filters. The coating formula associated with HD UV filters also promotes effective cleaning with regard to water, oil, and stains.

Constructed from chemically-hardened optical glass, the Hoya 55mm HD UV Filter offers enhanced resistance to scratches while providing clarity and color fidelity. It also features a thin, lightweight, aluminum-alloy filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting.

This UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Such filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your front lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

Does anyone know what the UV transmission is at ...

Does anyone know what the UV transmission is at 350 nm for this filter? Hoya's own website doesn't have a transmission curve shown for this filter.
Asked by: Charles
the exact transmission of 350nm on the light spectrum can be obtained by purchasing a light meter that measures ultraviolet light. Transmission of 350nm with this filter will be very low to non existent, as even regular glass absorbs ultraviolet light.

Read a few reviews saying the lens cap doesn't ...

Read a few reviews saying the lens cap doesn't fit quite the same once the filter is on the lens? I'm getting it for a Sony 24-70 2.8 GM so I was hoping you can still put the cap on over the filter? Thanks for the help!
Asked by: Robbie
Yes the filter has a 82mm front thread, the same size as the original thread on the 24-70mm f/2.8 GM lens. The issue is that the thread on the filter is not as deep as the thread on the lens. Some lens caps are made for deep mounting. In that case it is advisable to get a shallow mount lens cap: https://bhpho.to/31qeltG

yes it will work fine, however you may want to opt for the zeiss 77mm uv filter which has the 't' coating, and will be matched with the 't' coating of the lens

question

Can I use this with all canon cameras?
Asked by: Laurnie W.
Hi, the 55mm filter fits to all lenses that has a 55mm diameter in front (regardless of manufacturer). I use this filter with a Sony lens. When you buy a lens for a camera the specs of that lens will tell you what filter diameter that fits. UV filters are great for removing haze (clearer colors) and for general protection of the lens. Since that is the case you would usually buy a UV filter for all lenses you have, and keep it on at all times.Hope this answers your question.
