Hoya XHD62UV overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya 62mm HD UV Filter is a general use, clear filter designed to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. Aside from the reduction of unwanted blue casts, no additional coloration or contrast is created, and adjustments to exposure are not required while using this filter. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections while providing over 99.35% light transmission, eight layers of anti-reflection coatings are applied to the glass. These coatings offer a high degree of protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than uncoated filters. The coating formula associated with HD UV filters also promotes effective cleaning with regard to water, oil, and stains.

Constructed from chemically-hardened optical glass, the Hoya 62mm HD UV Filter offers enhanced resistance to scratches while providing clarity and color fidelity. It also features a thin, lightweight, aluminum-alloy filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting.

This UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Such filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your front lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

    Hoya XHD62UV reviews

62mm HD UV Filter is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product I shoot documentary films, stills and TV commercials, often with my own equipment, and often in rugged environments. I like knowing my front elements are protected by extra strong glass that resists dirt and fingerprints and cleans easily when it does get dirty. I find the coating really works as advertized. I'm not sure there are any benefits to a UV filter as far as a digital sensor is concerned, but I don't see any harm to it either. I like Hoya filters in general, they seem well made and don't vignette on wider lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Resists scratches, does not affect IQ This is my 3rd Hoya HD UV product- 2 of 62mm, a 55mm (4th Hoya HD if counting the circular polarizer). They may be pricey, but one should not be without a good-quality filter that they are putting on their lenses (otherwise, please don't use one as the IQ will be affected). There may be no benefit for the UV reduction to the digital sensor, but the multicoating that Hoya uses here is amazing. I mostly want it on the lens for protection and ease of cleaning (I dread wiping the lens element). I haven't been the most careful in cleaning the Hoya HD filters, sometimes with the shirt or fleece I'm wearing (because I'm confident of the filter's durability), but all of them remain 100% scratchless. Image contrast is great, no flaring or ghosting problems thanks to the coating, thin ring does not cause additional vignetting (even on Sony 1680Z which is known to require the thinnest filters at its widest setting), and the glass seems both unscratchable and unbreakable. Also, multicoated lenses are often very hard to clean, but this one is super easy; I think even easier than the noncoated Tiffen UV I quickly returned before investing in the Hoya. I keep these attached to my lenses attached all the time even for indoor and night photography (this puzzles friends who remove their uncoated UV filters); this filter simply does not negatively affect IQ.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than regular UV filter I bought this filter after the regular one was producing flare. It is solid and results in slightly better images.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have bought several of these filter I have several of these filters in several differend sizes. They are great for bright Sunny day. They reduce glare. When I prchase a new lens I also purchas one of these to fit that lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Reflection Elimination! I used this filter to shoot tide pool wildlife. It flawlessly eliminated the surface reflection. My only issue is the reduction in light availability. This is not a filter to leave on your lens of you shoot wildlife. If a harbor seal pops out of the water while you're shooting some sea stars, there's about 5-6 wasted seconds of opportunity removing the filter and readjusting settings. I have not used this filter for landscape photography yet, but I hear great things about it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The lens is protected I like knowing that my lens is protected. Sure, there are people who suggest that a UV filter should never be used, but I like using them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Protects your lens Now I don't have to be worried in heavy cicumstances (sandy winds or water), becouse my lens will be optimal protected.
