Hoya XHD77UV overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya 77mm HD UV Filter is a general use, clear filter designed to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. Aside from the reduction of unwanted blue casts, no additional coloration or contrast is created, and adjustments to exposure are not required while using this filter. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections while providing over 99.35% light transmission, eight layers of anti-reflection coatings are applied to the glass. These coatings offer a high degree of protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than uncoated filters. The coating formula associated with HD UV filters also promotes effective cleaning with regard to water, oil, and stains.

Constructed from chemically-hardened optical glass, the Hoya 77mm HD UV Filter offers enhanced resistance to scratches while providing clarity and color fidelity. It also features a thin, lightweight, aluminum-alloy filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting.

This UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Such filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your front lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

    Hoya XHD77UV reviews

77mm HD UV Filter is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 130.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a great filter I often take photographs in a dusty environment and I consider the UV filter to be cheap insurance to protect the fore-optic of my lenses. I had previously purchased an off-brand UV filter (not from B&H) and when I took a few photographs with a shallow depth of field I noticed a series of repeating light-gray/dark-gray lines running through the soft focus portions of the image. After performing a few test & convincing myself that the lines were caused by the filter. After I purchased the Hoya HD and I am happy to report that I no longer have the optical aberrations. Bottom line, my $2000 lens is protected and my pictures are sharp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong protection filter Very nice filter. Made in Japan. I use this primarily as protective for Nikon 70-200/2.8. A glass the filter use, seems very impressive . A strong glass with good protective properties. Successfully protects front glass of lens from drop of water, a dirt, scratches oe even from impacts. Nice optical properties. Filter presence on a lens does't make the picture optically worse. Neutral. Doesn't produce colorshade. I think filter intended to expensive top-level lenses like my Nikon 70-200/2.8, for not so expensive ones filter too much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality Bought three of these to replace all my other 77mm UV filters. Bought mainly for protection of lens. Very, very good and did not notice any degradation of clarity compared to when shot taken w/o filter. With cheaper filters I definitely noticed a difference when I shot with lens only and then with filter on. Pricey but worth it to protect L series lens and keep the same lens quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best protective filter I have one of these on the front of each of my lenses. Really durable -- like armor. I've accidentally banged these across a variety of objects that I was certain would leave a mark, but all of them still look like new. It also cleans incredibly easily -- a gentle swipe with a microfiber cloth and everything comes right off. Coatings are so good you hardly know it is there. With the first one, the price was quite a shock. But it was so much better than any other UV filter I had ever owned that now I just automatically think of the price of any new lens as having to include one of these filters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hoya 77mm HD UV Filter I have been using Hoya filters for a very long time, and in recent years have standardised on the High Density (HD) filters. Like all Hoya filters I own, this 77mm HD UV filter is extremely well made and causes no degradation of image quality. The HD glass also offers better protection for the lens than do standard grade filters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does just what I want I use UV filters on my more expensive lenses as protetion for the front element, nothing more. I saw several negative reviews online complaining that these filters do not provide any benefit in haze. That is correct! They may be poorly named, being basically just clear glass. If you want added protection for an expensive lens, put a good quality UV filter (multicoated with high light transmission) on the front and leave it there, but do not expect any color correction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good glass When buying a 70-200mm lens, I wanted the best front-protection I could get. Although this is expensive, it is only a fraction of the price of the lens. Fortunately I haven't had to push limits on the filter's strength, but the optical quality is great! With the thin profile, I can stack filters as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value UV filters Very high optical quality, durable, and less expensive than B+W but tend to smear and dust seems to stick to them a bit rather than easily wiping off or blowing away. I prefer B+W but they are more expensive so it's a trade-off.
