  • Absorbs Ultraviolet Light
  • Reduces Bluish Cast of Daylight
  • 1x Filter Factor, No Exposure Change
The Hoya 82mm HD UV Filter is a general use, clear filter designed to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. Aside from the reduction of unwanted blue casts, no additional coloration or contrast is created, and adjustments to exposure are not required while using this filter. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections while providing over 99.35% light transmission, eight layers of anti-reflection coatings are applied to both sides of the glass for a total of 16 layers of coating. These coatings offer a high degree of protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than uncoated filters. The coating formula associated with HD UV filters also promotes effective cleaning with regard to water, oil, and stains.

Constructed from chemically-hardened optical glass, the Hoya 82mm HD UV Filter offers enhanced resistance to scratches while providing clarity and color fidelity. It also features a thin, lightweight, aluminum-alloy filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting.

This UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Such filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your front lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

Read a few reviews saying the lens cap doesn't fit quite the same once the filter is on the lens? I'm getting it for a Sony 24-70 2.8 GM so I was hoping you can still put the cap on over the filter? Thanks for the help!
Asked by: Robbie
Yes the filter has a 82mm front thread, the same size as the original thread on the 24-70mm f/2.8 GM lens. The issue is that the thread on the filter is not as deep as the thread on the lens. Some lens caps are made for deep mounting. In that case it is advisable to get a shallow mount lens cap: https://bhpho.to/31qeltG

question

Hu guys, I'm after a UV filter for a Canon 16-35 f2.8 II. I think I've narrowed down my choices to: (a) Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital FilterB&H # HOUVH82 ? Mfr # XHD82UV(b) Hoya 82mm HD2 UV Filter B&H # HOUVH282 ? Mfr # XHD2-82UVI'm just wondering what the main difference are between the two.Is it just a case of the HD2 being thinner? Is the Haze on the first one a reference to a colour/effect? Thanks for your help.

The Hoya HD and HD2 filters are the same except for their respective warranties. The HD filters has a one year warranty and the HD2 have a limited lifetime warranty. The Haze feature on the HD model is to reduce the hazy effect on a bright, sunny day.

question

What type of lens cap does this filter use? Clips onto the inside threads, or friction holding onto the outside of the filter? I own a B+W slim 82 mm uv filter and it keeps coming off, it does not stay on.

This filter can use any type of lens cap, including the center pinch style caps.

question

What is the best way to remove water spots and finger eprint smudges from this lens? Can you use alcohol wipes used on glasses? I seem to always get blue and silver streaks which I think are from damaged coatings.

My recommendation is with a Giottos lens cleaning kit. All of the included items are safe to use on optical glass. http://bhpho.to/1htNpju

question

Very new to this. Will this fit the lens for a Sony Nex-5t 16-50mm and 55-210mm lens?
Asked by: Anonymous
No it will not. This filter is sized too large. The Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Alpha E-mount Retractable Zoom Lens has a 40.5mm sized filter thread, and the 55-210mm lens requires 49mm sized filters. This specific filter is not offered in those sizes unfortunately.

question

HI there, I need a UV filter for protection for my new Canon 50mm 1.2 prime, and Im deciding which one to get. I shoot mostly indoor natural light newborn photography. Is this one going to affect my photos in a certain way for that? would it be better for me to get the cheaper one that has less layers of glass, for what Im using it for?

The Hoya 72mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter is one of the best filters available. It would be a perfect filter for your L series lens.
