Hoya XHD52CRPL overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya 52mm HD Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, the glass surface includes an 8-layer anti-reflective HD Multi-Coating. This offers further protection to the filter substrate and makes it water and oil repellent as well as scratch and stain resistant. This filter features a thin filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting while enhancing durability and jamming prevention and has 52mm front filter threads. Additionally, it comes with a protective case.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.
Polarizing filters arrange, and filter, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light.
Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Eight-layer HD Multi-Coating to prevent internal ghosting and reflections. Also, it is water and oil repellent as well as scratch and stain resistant.
Glass is mounted with High Pressure Press Technology to ensure glass does not loosen up over time.
Plastic filter case for storage and transport.

    Hoya XHD52CRPL reviews

52mm HD Circular Polarizer Filter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does its job as a Polarizer but difficult to use. Hoya has a good reputation so I decided to give this filter a try. Optically, this filter is well made and I have not had an problems with the test shots I've done so far. But I gave it three stars because of the filter rings. Polarizers have two filter rings to achieve the polarization effect. The inner ring screws on the lens and the outer ring rotates to control the polarization effect. Hoya uses thin aluminum rings and this makes the filter difficult to use. I have a hard time screwing the filter on the lens, a hard time screwing the filter off the lens, and a hard time rotating the outer ring to make adjustments. The rings are too small to get a good grip. I am also concerned, because aluminum filter rings tend to get stuck more often than brass rings and this is not a filter that is left on the lens all the time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great!! Works as advertised. Have drop tested a HD UV filter on concrete from4 feet with only a slight dent in the edge. No broken glass. Oh, and it is excellent at repelling fingerprints and dust! Wish they weren't being discontinued as the HD2s are a bit pricey.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok but the construction was a bit clunky Ok but the construction was a bit clunky. There is a little bit of play between the rotating element and the back glass. B+W polarizer don't have that clunkiness. The nice about the Hoya is the ribbed side and its easier to hold and rotate than B+W.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Filter Excellent polarizing effects with quality Hoya HD glass and nice to know its higher breakage rating means better protection for expensive lenses.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Exceptional optics, filter came apart within 1 year Great optical quality, vastly improved my images. BUT.... The filter ring came apart after about 1 year of relatively low usage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hoya Polarizer Works Well I used the Hoya HD Circular Polarizer to reduce the light reflection when photographing plants at Longwood Gardens. It improves the quality of the pictures.
