The Hoya 82mm HD Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, the glass surface includes an 8-layer anti-reflective HD Multi-Coating. This offers further protection to the filter substrate and makes it water and oil repellent as well as scratch and stain resistant. This filter features a thin filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting while enhancing durability and jamming prevention and has 82mm front filter threads. Additionally, it comes with a protective case.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.
Polarizing filters arrange, and filter, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light.
Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Eight-layer HD Multi-Coating to prevent internal ghosting and reflections. Also, it is water and oil repellent as well as scratch and stain resistant.
Glass is mounted with High Pressure Press Technology to ensure glass does not loosen up over time.
Plastic filter case for storage and transport.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Is expensive but is a lot better though. Originally, I had my eyes set on another cheaper CPL filter. I had some issues with it and BH was out of stock with it. So, I "upgraded" to the Hoya 82mm HD CPL. Not happy to spend over $100 on a filter. However, is definitely a high quality CPL filter here. The coating makes it every easy to clean. A big plus. Two, no grease spilling at the underside unlike some cheaper filters. The rotating mechanism is pretty much sealed. Is made of brass I believe. Very easy to put on and off, even stacking it with another ND filter. My shots are sharper comparing to the Hoya Pro1 Digital version I was using it in the past. Don't really notice any color shifts....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Filter on every level I've bought the Hoya 3-pack (UV, ND8, Pol) for my other lenses, but hadn't gotten any filters except the UV for my Canon 16-35mm. I was heading to Arizona and knew I'd want a Polarizer so I bought this. Its exactly what you expect when you buy Hoya. The build is great and the glass is amazing. If I have a complaint, its the same for all my polarizing lenses, which is that its tough to get off the lens, so I just keep a rubber band with me and i'm all set. I would highly recommend this lens. You can pay more, but I can't see how you'd get much more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No vignetting on superwide This thin mount polarizer works well with my Canon 16-35mm L II on 5DII (full frame) body. There are non vignetting at 16mm. The only drawback is hard to un-mount from the lens, I have to wrap cable ties around to get it off. From now on, cable ties will be added to my photo bag. Highly recommended....great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I purchased a HOYA 82m Circular HD polarizer This filter performs as well on my new Sigma 24-105m f4 Art lens that I use with my D810 as any up scale filters I have purchased in the past. Super great price, unbelievable results both on overcast and sunny days equally. I haven't experienced any flare while shooting towards the sun and the sun bursts at f22 are dazzling. This filter will be getting lots of use going forward. I'm excited to think of the possibilities this fall! R.Gray

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice features for the price The filter works as expected although I avoid its use with short focal lengths. Construction is solid and it's thin enough so that it does not cause vignetting in any image. The price, especially when on sale, makes it a good value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Filter I shoot sunsets almost daily on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay. This filter does wonders with the whites and blues of a sunset landscape shot. Worth the money. I use a Canon EOS 70D with Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Ultra-Wide Zoom lens. Incredible results with outdoor landscapes with this filter. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hardened means strong I use this on 16-35mm Canon lens and 24 TS-E II and i really appreciate the flare resistance. I dropped it on a rock and it didn't even scratch the coating. Some years ago I did much the same to a Singh-Ray and chipped the glass. I love the HD filters. I now own 5 UV and 3 polarizers.
