Kaiser digiShield overview

  • 1Description

The Kaiser digiShield Folding LCD Hood for compact digital cameras with a 3" LCD display, shields light from the LCD monitor to improve the visibility of the monitor image. It folds down completely for compact storage of the camera as well as to act as a screen protector, and uses coil spring supported side flaps to keep the Hood in its opened position. To ease the operation of a touch screen monitor the hood has a quick release lock rail to allow the hood to be swung out of the way and can be easily released no matter if it is open or folded down.

The Kaiser digiShield attaches to the camera by the tripod socket and provides an additional tripod thread so the camera can still be mounted. Furthermore, the hood can be positioned to fully cover the display and fit tightly to the camera body, regardless of the position of the tripod socket relative to the display. It is also supplied with 3 different adapter plates, two different thin screws and an adapter screw with tripod thread to suit a large number of camera makes & models.

    Kaiser digiShield reviews

digiShield Folding LCD Hood for 3" LCD Displays is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from I would buy this again It has come in very useful for me. Although I did not like the mounting bracket system for it was very flimsy. Alternatively, I used slim slices of double-sided foam tape to attach it simply to the back of the camera. It has worked very well for me since then.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solution to a problem I attached it to my Panasonic DMC GF5 camera which has about a 3 inch screen. It works well and opens or closes easily or quickly. I couldn't use my camera in situations with sunlight somewhere behind me without this or something like it. Nothing else has as simple of an attachment, to the tripod screw mount. It's steady and firmly attached. It would be better if made from aluminum instead of plastic. It's a little pricey for plastic.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Didn't work for me could work for others I was looking for a shade, not a viewfinder, for my canon 5d mark ii. I called b&h to ask if this shade would fit on a canon 5d ii, was told by the sales rep that it would. It doesn't, the shade is too short to be mounted on the back of a canon 5d. It works fine for my canon powershot g10, so I kept it. Good for point and shoot cameras only.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from What the camera maker forgot to add not the same as sticking your head under a pricy darkcloth but far better than...nothing. I like it and I also like not having sticky tape remnants all over the camera. Mounting system could be beefed up somewhat, but I do recommend it and would buy again. greaty acc forn outdoor use in bright use

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great device For those of us who can't see the LCD screen in the sunlight, this hood is just the right answer. Plus, attaching the hood using the tripod screw is a very clever solution. When you're taking pictures inside, you can easily remove the hood for greater ease and there is no stickiness involved. I don't yet know how sturdy the hood's folding mechanism really is as I have not had it very long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good design With a name like Kaiser and a rather high price, it better be good, and it is. The LCD on my Pentax K-01 becomes essentially invisible in bright light, and the camera has no EVF. After browsing a number of hood designs, I rejected the soft ones that mount with adhesive or elastic bands, and also the expensive loupes. I chose the Kaiser for its robust mounting system and its fold-down design. Of the three mounting brackets provided, the default which was already on the hood worked perfectly. Two tripod mount bolts are provided, one of which is threaded so a tripod can be used with the hood. Folding up and down is easy, and the hood protects the LCD when down. Although there are narrow gaps at the sides, the hood makes the LCD quite useable in all conditions. The only negative is that the hood can slide out of position on its bracket with normal handling (but it doesn't fall off). If this product is durable, I will say it's near perfect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Folding LCD Hood This product works as advertised. I also like it as it protects the LCD screen when in my purse. You can easily take it off to shoot indoor or night pictures. Best use for outdoors in bright sun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A valuable find LCD screens are impossible to use in bright sunlight. The Kaiser hood was a valuable find. It is well engineered and fit perfectly on my camera. Instructions were very clear and it mounted with minimum fuss. I have been using it with good results; especially on bright days. The folding feature makes its use very convienient. I give it high marks.
