Voigtlander BA288A overview

  • 1Description

A versatile wide-angle lens to suit working in a variety of situations, the Ultron 28mm f/2 from Voigtlander pairs a wide field of view with a bright f/2 maximum aperture. Its optical design employs high refractive index glass to control distortion and spherical aberrations in order to realize a high degree of sharpness and clarity, and a 10-blade diaphragm is also featured to contribute to a pleasing bokeh quality. Additionally, a manual focus design is also used, which permits working with subjects as close as 2.3' away, and a dedicated lens hood is included to shield the front element and reduce lens flare.

Bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also helps in controlling depth of field.
High refractive index glass is used to reduce field curvature, distortion, and spherical aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness.
Manual focus design enables a minimum focusing distance of 2.3'.
A 10-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Removable lens hood helps to prevent lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity when working in strongly lit conditions.

    Voigtlander BA288A reviews

    Ultron 28mm f/2 Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT LENS I purchased this lens to provide more coverage than my 35mm Summicron. The build quality is first-rate. I like the focusing tab; it provides a familiar feel when using the lens on my M6. My only quibble is the lens shade - external mounting threads on the lens & the shade didn't stay secure on the lens. The lens is sharp. A bit soft on the edges @ f/2; but who cares; you're usually shooting in poor light at 1/30th anyway. Stopped down the lens is sharp across the field. Set it to f/8, zone focus and you can shoot all day 'from the hip'. I shoot B&W film. The lens produces contrasty results, some of this can be tamed by adjusting processing times. I bought the lens w/the aux. viewfinder. This also exhibited first-class build quality. Overall, a good lens in an affordable package. I'd recommend the lens w/out reservation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good lens for street photography I use the Ultron 28mm f/2.0 on the second camera in my bag, a very nice Leica-Minolta CLE. It is great for shooting crowd scenes, such as zoos or parades. I have also used it in museums and outdoor sculpture gardens. Its small enough to not be intimidating and wide enough for reaction shots of faces on the edge of an event. f/2.0 is sufficient for close in shots with decent bokeh. Not Leica-class optics, but cozy and comfortable for photographing small groups of people.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best wide-angle rangefinder for A7 If you're looking for a wide-angle rangefinder lens for your A7/A7R, this is the one to get. This lens does not exhibit the magenta shift/corner smearing that is typical of Leica/Voigtlander wide-to-ultra-wide lenses. Built like a tank with excellent aperture and focus ring feel. No distortion, but a little vignetting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb balance-size, aperture, sharpness I am a huge fan of Voigtlander lenses and I own several in both MFT and VM-mount. Up until recently, I have used them exclusively on my MFT cameras with their 2X crop factor. Now I have a Sony A7 and this has opened up a whole new world of true wide angle without the crop factor. This lens at 28mm on FF is moderately wide angle. The f/2 aperture is bright enough for most applications, both for DOF and light-gathering purposes, particularly since it is sharp at this aperture and doesn't need to be stopped down like some faster lenses. It is the 2nd smallest and lightest Voigtlander lens I own, and I expect I will find this on my A7 a lot of the time. It is bigger than the 35mm f/1.4 or 40mm f/1.4, but I find that the wider angle and much better optics make it worth the tradeoff. Also, I want the brighter f/2 aperture compared to the Voigtlander 25mm f/4. The 21mm f/1.8 is in a class by itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for M8 I use the lens with the M8 primarily for street shots. It just work wonders focusing is spot on not as sharp as the leica , thats the reason why i love this lens. and you cant beat F2.0 you will have no problems in low light in most cases. get this lens

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens I purchased this lens for my Sony NEX-7, attached with a m-mount adapter. It is solidly built, optically sharp, and a great addition to my camera bag. Manual focus and aperture adjustment are straightforward. I anticipate this lens will survive many generations of mirrorless cameras into the future. A great lens for street photography.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value if you are comfortable with m I bought this lens to use on my Sony A7R as a walk around lens. I have used it for a couple of weeks and the images are good. The lens is solid and small so it makes the 7R much smaller than using my A mount lenses with the adapter. The f2.0 makes the lens excellent for low light shooting I am using the Fotodiox Pro adapter and the fit is fine. The only drawbacks is that it is hard to focus. I really cannot see a difference through the viewfinder during focusing and the focus magnifier does not work with this lens. The issue may be my eyesight, as I am older. I have had success setting the f stop at 8 or above and using the depth of field scale to focus. That seems to work well and make the lens useful for street photography. This is a good, reasonably priced alternative if you are comfortable in the manual world. It does take a little practice to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, very good. A very nice lens that is tight corner to corner. No distortion and while not a Leica lens it produces a very honest and viewable image from my M3. Nice bokeh for the buck. Use it while you save up for the Leica version, which costs several thousands more. A good medium budget match with the Minolta CLE m-mount rangefinder.
