Nikon Capture NX 2 Photo Editing Software is a full-featured non-destructive photo editing program that provides photographers powerful tools to quickly and easily edit their photographs, including the highest quality RAW (NEF) conversions from your Nikon camera. Plus it fully integrates with all Nikon software including Camera Control Pro 2, Image Authentication Software, Transfer and ViewNX. Plus Capture NX 2 has maintained all of the functionality of Capture NX, but has added improvements to the usability of those functions.

Please note that version 2.2 is not upgradeable to 2.4.3. You will be required to download and install the latest version from Nikon's official website and authenticate it.

Please note that this software is no longer supported by Nikon and is not compatible with the latest Nikon camera models (such as D810) or operating systems (such as Windows 10).

Award-winning U Point Technology
U Point technology uses Control Points to help realize results envisioned in the editing process. Using NEF files for optimal performance, Control Points allow photographers to select and isolate an entire image or selected areas within the image for enhancement, Furthermore, those enhancements can be instantly cancelled or added with ease, without compromising the original quality of the image, and U Point control is perfectly compatible with each NEF file's Instruction Set.
Selection Control Points
Now you can selectively edit photographs without the need to manually outline or mask the area for editing. Simply place a Selection Control Point anywhere on the photograph then choose from almost any adjustment such as D-Lighting, Unsharp Mask or Noise Reduction, while limiting the "reach" of that adjustment to just the selected area.
Auto-Retouch Brush
Capture NX 2 adds an automatic retouch tool to its image editing toolbox allowing users to seamlessly remove blemishes, dust and other distracting elements from photographs while maintaining the integrity of the image.
Shadow/Highlight Adjustment
With just a simple slider adjustment you can easily open up shadows or recover blown-out highlights. Highlight recovery is most effective for RAW (NEF) files however it will work with JPEG and TIFF files as well.
Redesigned Interface
The latest version includes a number of improvements to the user interface including the addition of Customizable Workspaces, Improved Toolbar function and layout, Improved Edit List functionality, a newly designed image browser featuring a Favorites Folder, and Improved Image Resolution adjustment controls.

Capture NX 2 Photo Editing Software is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 198.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic (so far) I've used a few other less-expensive programs before, but this is my first serious photo editing program. I've had this program about one month, and am still learning how to use all of it's features. The interface seems easy enough, as I was able to do many basic procedures before I ever looked at the manual. If you are considering this program, my only advice is to be sure you have a sufficiently powerful enough computer. I currently use a Dell Optiplex with a Pentium 4 and only 1GB of RAM, and if I have ANYTHING else (IM, IE, etc) open along with this program, all programs run painfully slow. I would recommend at least 2GB of RAM and a dual-core CPU.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very easy to use - U-Point is amazing I am an enthusiast who swithced to RAW after trying Lightroom and Capture. Both are easy to use but Capture NX2 produces much nicer results and reads the custom camera profiles that I have setup in my D90. The U-Point technology is amazing. Most of my pictures do not need any additional processing but when I do want to enhance something, it is very easy to do. The tutorials that Nikon and Nik Software have on their sites are very easy to follow to get up and running very quickly. I would like to see the interface improved. It does take some getting use to. I use NX2 on a Mac and am disappointed that the most recent update only came out for the PC and is still forthcoming.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nikon Capture NX 2 I ordered Capture NX2 at the same time as I ordered Photoshop CS4, and, after getting some hands-on experience with Photoshop realise that I probably don't need the former. However, it is very good and quite easy-to-use. I can't help wondering if some of the Capture NX2 functionality was licensed from Adobe. As one example, they both have very effective self-healing retouching tools - which they bear a very close implementation resemblance to each other, even including the icons used for the two tools. Yes, I recommend Capture NX2, but advise prospective purchasers who might want the extra functionality of Photoshop CS4, to go straight to the latter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent program I recently converted from being a JPG Fine shooter to a pure RAW--and Neutral Picture Control--shooter. My camera is a Nikon D700. I use a MacBook Pro, and Capture NX2 makes processing photos a lot of fun! I got some advice on some forums for adjustments to make in Capture and these are working great for me. By shooting RAW I am really forcing myself to think only of exposure, composition and white balance. I feel like I've gotten back to my roots--and my photos are better for it. I also use Photoshop--but I find I'm relying less on Photoshop and more on Capture. And Capture costs much less than Photoshop. What's not to love?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Tool I used a lot of the trial software before purchasing CNX2, such as Adobe Photoshop CS4, CS5, CS6 Beta, and found CNX2 easier to use and understand for adjusting image attributes. I'm not advanced enough to evaluate the specific differences. Along the way I learned you should use the manufacturers software to best render their own unique RAW format, so I went with CNX2 for my Nikon D7000 shooting in Nikons RAW NEF format.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from old version just purchased this and got version 2.2; well I got nothing but tech issues with this, would not save in NEF, then saved as jpeg and got tiny files, the crop gave really weird results, kept freezing/crashing and many more I looked around and found out the version mailed to me is old, and no new upgrades found on install It is now 2.4.7, uninstalled 2.2, got the free trial and now works much better maybe they should just mail you a key and you go direct to download to get the latest with bugs fixed instead of a CD

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Editing Software, but.... Capture Nx2 is for me an intuitive program to use. It is closely related to how Nikon cameras store information, so it gives me some insights into settings on my camera. Corrections and adjustments can be made locally to an area of an image or globally. The controls are similar to those used in NIK software now owned by Google. A person used to be able to expand the capabilities of Capture NX2 by adding the plugins from NIK software, but Nikon has had a falling out with NIK and that option is no longer available. This makes me question the future of this software. It appears to have been developed is cooperation with NIK as the controls used by Nikon and NIK are similar. The loss of these plug in capabilities does not bode well for the future. Capture NX2 is a capable editor with intuitive controls, but I cannot give it a higher rating since the ability of software to evolve is critical given the fast pace of technical innovations. If I could be assured that the software would evolve maintaining a familiar user interface while expanding capabilities I would rate it higher and be able to recommend it, but as things stand I am unable to do so.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Capture NX 2 Review Capture NX 2 is a solid product for basic post processing of images. The interface is pretty simple and straightforward, however, reading manual before using this product is strongly recommended. I found it extremely useful for working with Nikon's raw (.NEF) files; if all you're doing to your pictures is correcting them - adjusting colors/contrast/etc, cropping, straightening - this program will fit your need. The application has certain focus issues - ocasionally it may bring some UI elements behind other applications (especially when switching between applications using Alt+Tab), but this is a minor annoyance. Also, the program still works in a 32-bit mode even on 64-bit machines (at least, Windows version), which does not let it take benefits of large amounts of memory.
