OP/TECH USA 1101111 overview

  • 1Description

The OP/TECH USA Lens Mount Cap is designed with an O-ring seal which creates a positive contact with the full perimeter of a Canon EF and EF-S lens mount area, locking out dust and moisture. It also offers a tighter friction fit over traditional caps that come with the lens, providing better protection to the lens mount area. This ensures that the lens mount cap is securely held in place while in storage or transit.

This item is made in the USA.

Lens Mount Cap for Canon EF and EF-S Lenses is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Snug fitting seals against the elements Fits snugly, especially on EOS to Nikon adapters which often do not accept standard Canon EOS lens mount caps snugly. Seals against mist, moisture, and dust. Well constructed with o-ring seal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Neat & Useful I use this to label, stablised as well as to protect against dust and moisture. For those lenses that have rubber gasket i.e weather sealed, it acts as one even when its kept in the bag. Frequent flyer will know that the moisture will usually form in between flights. I also printed some labels and stick to the flat surface which is very handy and useful in a dark coloured bag with primes that have similar sizes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best! Nothing to complaint about it. It's hard plastic, slightly larger then original Canon caps, but: - It has a rubber O-Ring that seals the lens from dust and moisture. - The O-ring also forms tight friction, it will avoid losing the cap. - It covers the entire bayonet diameter, providing more protection against blows and scratches. It's a no brainer to me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice, but too much grip Like most of OP/TECH's products this lens cap is well built and thought-out. It is not a Chinese knockoff of a Canon lens cap. It looks to be custom-built and has the unique feature of a rubber o-ring to help improve the seal. While the o-ring does improve the seal on native Canon lens mounts, it doesn't work so well on miscellaneous lens adapters such as M42 to EOS. In fact, I got it so stuck on one I had to hold the adapter in a vice to get it off. I figured out that I needed to wedge something between the cap and lens mount and pry it off - it couldn't be turned in either direction. It just holds too well on third party adapters. This is more the fault of the lens adapter than this cap, but I bought it for these adapters as the included Canon caps work well enough on Canon lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than the OEM Cap The Optech mount cap seems to be much better than the Canon cap it replaces. Slightly heavier and larger and the o-ring provides a total dust seal. Optech makes great products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from an expensive hassle in the field These caps are very nice, but are a pain to use in the field. Unlike Canon caps, which can be mounted and unmounted in any orientation, the OpTech caps _have_ to have the tab on the edge of the cap aligned with the dot on the lens. Otherwise they are very hard to mount and almost impossible to remove. In the dark, or when you're in a hurry, it's surprisingly hard to put the caps on correctly. Additionally, the tab on the edge of the cap really does a number on the weathersealing gasket on the rear of my 100L--I wound up having to trim the tab with a utility knife. In short, this is a $10 cap that isn't as convenient as the Canon cap that came with your lens, and while it does have a rubber gasket on it, the cap itself may wind up damaging the weatherproofing gasket on your Canon L lenses. And lest you think I got a defective OpTech cap--I didn't. I bought two, from different retailers, and they're both the same. As the other reviewer states, these caps will fit snugly onto poorly made Canon adapters (I shoot with OM and K mount glass, in addition to native EF lenses), which is the only reason to buy these caps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from On all my lenses I put these dust-tight caps on all my lenses and store the Canon originals in my dead gear box. While the proper point to align with Canon's lens red index dot is marked with a longer rib on the circumference, I paint that rib with permanent paint marker so I can find it quickly by eye rather than rather ambiguously by feel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Fits nicely on my Zeiss Contax lenses with Leitax EF mount.
