    Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1950 reviews

WinTV-HVR-1950 External USB 2.0 TV Tuner is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from so so It does not really tell you on the box what kind of HDTV you will have. When you open the box and read the instructions, you find out that only certain people living in certain regions have the ATSC digital TV. In Manhattan we don't seem to have it. It's a nightmare to try to get the IR Blaster to work with the top box. In fact, it didn't work with Atlanta Scientific (Time Warner). So the extra for $$ and IR support was a waste of money. The instructions could be much better. They should give you an overall idea of the whole setting before the step by step. (I hav a gamer computer with i7 processor and dual video card and a great monitor, so you can't blame on them.)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Video quality is very good I bought this because it is compatible witha program called ORB. My current External USBTV Tuner was not. What I like about the tuner is the compatibilitywith ORB. Other than that I see it's performanceno better than my existing tuner. What I don't like is and was confirmed with ... people, it is not compatible with Windows Media Encoder 9.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Alright I use this tuner in conjunction with SageTV. When I first connected it to my computer it had all kinds of issues. Took 30+ seconds to change channels and then just stopped work altogether, but resetting it fixed both issues. The remote is great. Video quality is about the same as my old HVR-950Q, but channel switches are much quicker, and it is much less hardware intensive. A relevant side-note: My old HVR-950Q did quit working (no audio) which is why I purchased the new unit, but I did get a good 2 years out of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PC based DVR and then some What a great little USB/PC device. Easily allows all forms of TV (cable, sat dish or antenna), FM Radio (with included FM antenna) and even video from any external source (camera, VCR (std viceo or S-VHS) to be recorded and ultimately burned to a DVD. Has a IR 'blaster' to control a cable or sat box and programmable to record selected channels as desired. Don't think they missed 'anything' 'video to DVD' with this little device!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't say enough good things about WinTV Can't tell you how refreshing it is to find a product that works as advertised, right out of the box. Add to that the one settings question I had that got answered by tech support, almost immediately, and it makes a fella want to find out what other great stuff these guys make.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hardware great. Software? Meh. Using with Win 7. Wanted to set it up as a head end for XBMC PVR. The Win TV software is a bit weird. I found that it will NOT co-exist with Skype if you have a video camera. I have to log off Skype if I want to record anything. Also, recordings are not very reliable unless you tune the channel manually. Hard to evaluate the hardware independant of the software. Hauppage is normally quality kit, and I see no reason to change that opinion. Basically, buy this, but find something better than Win TV.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from still couldnt make it to work I dont have cable tv...only antenna, but yet couldn't make it work properly. I'm in contact with support to see if we can solve it out... Guess it could be easier to install and configurate, and also a troubleshooting list would help a lot

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hardware Good, Software Did Not Work This hardware is nice and works fine. However, I was unable to install the software on any of my three Windows XP PC's. It just will not install, all sorts of different errors. So, if all you want is the hardware, this is a fine unit. If you want to use the DVR software as supplied on a Windows PC I would not recommend this choice.
