Does the center column swivel and tilt?
The center column comes out and goes into a horizontal position which allows you to go very low to the ground. This is particularly useful for macro work.

The 502HD head is made in 2 different ways. You can use the 502HD flat base with this tripod. Please see the following link:http://bhpho.to/JaY8ApThe other 502HD head is a 75mm half ball and that version will not fit this tripod.

The specs say that the minimum height is 4.5 , but that is with the center column mounted horizontally. In that configuration, the camera would be hanging over the side (not stable) and it would be in portrait mode (unless shooting straight down for a macro).What is the minimum height with the center post in the vertical position and all the way down?
The minimum height for the 055CXPRO3 tripod, with the center column in vertical position, is roughly 18-20 inches (not counting your ball head and camera height).

Unfortunately, the Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs do not come with a carrying case. One would need to be purchased separately. Which bag(s) would be the best option would depend, in part, on the head that you will use with the legs.
