CMOS Chip with Interpolation Technology
JVC's new CMOS Chips with Interpolation Technology were designed using a new interpolation algorithm. Virtual pixels are generated to provide information that extends beyond what 1920 x 1080 HD allows for. The result is an image with twice the usual HD pixel count for more detailed and clear video and stills.

Capture still images as well as video footage with a micro SD/SDHC card. Still images record in either widescreen (16:9) 2432 x 1368 or standard (4:3) 1824 x 1368 resolution for beautiful stills each time you shoot.
AVCHD & MPEG-2 Dual Format Capability
Chose between the AVCHD and MPEG-2 formats. AVCHD offers more recording time and advanced compression while MPEG-2 provides more ease-of-use with many of the current editing tools and software.
HD Gigabrid Duo Engine
The HD Gigabrid Duo Engine utilizes a processing chip that features 7 noise reducing capabilities for cleaner images. The chip also houses the dual AVCHD and MPEG-2 codecs that you can choose from when recording, depending on your needs.
Shooting Assist Functions
The GZ-HD40E features three distinct shooting assist functions for your convenience. Focus Assist outlines your subject to show which parts are in or out of focus. Zebra function places a striped black and white pattern over overexposed or blown-out areas of an image. And, Program AE provides effects that automatically enhance your images and take the guess work out of the scene for you. Portrait, Snow, Sports, Spotlight and Twilight are all features of Program AE.
Manual Controls
The manual controls of the GZ-HD40E enable you to be in control when automatic functions just aren't practical. This HD Everio camera features manual Focus, White Balance, Exposure Control, Sharpness Control, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Brightness Control, among others.
Power-Linked Operation
Power-Linked Operation saves your camcorder's battery life by automatically turning the camera off when the LCD screen is closed and turning the camera back on when the display is opened for immediate shooting.
Stick Control
JVC's stick control on the side of the LCD panel is comprised of four compass points that operate the menu selection and manual camera settings.
Everio Dock
The GZ-HD40E comes with an included Everio Dock for fast and easy connection to your PC, HDTV, DVD burner, player or other device. The dock features the following outputs: USB, i.LINK (Firewire IEEE1394), Component, A/V and DC for charging.
HD Best Shot Function

Using the outputs on the camera you can link up and either transfer files (USB) or watch your footage (HDMI) directly from the GZ-HD40E.
