Canon CA2813535IS Overview

  • 1Description

The Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens is a compact and lightweight standard zoom lens that offers superior optical performance, plus a built-in Image Stabilizer. The IS system reduces the possibility of blurred photographs caused by camera shake, which allows for handheld photography in comparatively dim light without a flash or tripod. At the wideangle end of the zoom range, the equivalent shutter speed gain is approximately 1.5 stops while at the telephoto end, it is approximately 2 stops.

In addition, the lens has a USM drive mechanism for faster and quieter AF operation, and the pulse control diaphragm (EMD) ensures precise aperture control.

Note: White Box merchandise comes supplied in a plain white box, instead of the manufacturer's colorful packaging. It still includes all the manufacturer's accessories.

The IS system is composed of a pair of gyro sensors to detect vertical and horizontal motion and a microprocessor that compensates for it by shifting special lens elements in parallel with the perceived movement.
The internal focusing mechanism allows the front of the lens to remain stationary and to easily accommodate specialty filters, such as polarizing filters.

    Canon CA2813535IS Reviews

EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer USM Autofocus Lens (White Box) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 138.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good Lens This is my walk-around lens, on a 30D. The range is perfect for my uses, which include general photography and vacations. I find it to be fast on focusing, and sharpness corner to corner meets my expectations. I'm a big guy, so weight is no problem at all. The only drawback is the aperture at longer FL (5.6), which is a little limiting, but I do most shooting in daylight, so it's not a big thing to me. As a walk-around lens, it must be durable, and this lens has had its share of knocks with no ill effects at all. Overall, I would buy this lens again, and I recommend it to my friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grade Canon Lens to Get Dollar-for-dollar, this is the best consumer-grade Canon lens available. The focal-length makes it a great walk-around lens. The onboard Image Stabilization allow for crisp zoom shots without a tripod. If your hands shake a lot, this lens will help overcome that. On the flip side, I found the Macro option provides a really startling level of detail up close. I also found the combination of the f3.5 and Image Stabilization to be of great use in low-light, indoor shooting where flash is prohibited. It's a fairly fast-focusing lens, too. Considering it is 1/3 the price of an L-series lens, I cannot find a single fault with it. Anyone looking for a general-purpose lens for under $500 to compliment their Canon Digital Rebel, Rebel XSI, 30D or 40D has found it here.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good lens...but night photography? I just recently got this lens, and yes, it is fantastic. It's a great all around lens. The zoom is a good range. It's sturdy. I don't think it's all that heavy. I see some people recommending this lens for night photography. I don't think so. On the widest setting, the largest aperture you get is f/3.5. Maybe if you wanted to do some cool motion trails or something. But for any general low light work, I just don't see this lens working in that regard. Not without a good deal of strobism taking place. Great for landscapes. Good for portraits. Great walk-around lens as previously mentioned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Very Nice Lens for Novice This Lens is a huge step forward form my old Kit Lens! Again, I am not a professional by any stretch of the imagination, however....I do want the best for the money! I would love to have L lenses but it is not cost effective for me. It feels very solid! The quality of the pictures that I have been getting is far superior to the kit lens. They are much sharper and has a great depth of field. Very responsive! I would highly recommend this lens for anyone that is in my league....novice photography that likes to have near the best....within reason!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great general walk around lens I would give this lens 5 stars if it had two things different. One, the f stop. I would love to have this lens in an f-2.8. While it does pretty well in low light, a lower number would give it a little more versatility. THe other is the case construction. It seems like the plastic used to construct the body is a little on the cheap side. Other then that, the lens takes great pictures. It is my walk around lens. Great focal range. At 28mm it does not distort like my 17-50mm lens will. I have used it to do indoor sports pictures, video highschool musical and everyday snap shot. For me it is a must have in by camera bag!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a great standard lens Using this lens on the 5dMkii for video and semi pro photography. The IS saved a few shots in video for me that would have been more difficult and not quite as smooth as I would have wanted had I not had it. For a very important video project we had two 5dMkii cameras. The other operator had the 28-105 L series and I had this one. The recorded image through the lenses did have a very slight difference in looks. This lens provided a slightly more saturated color,(not in a bad way at all) the contrast was nearly identical. With the camera settings identical, I at times preferred the saturation and tones from this lens and visa-versa under certain lighting conditions. I am fully pleased with this lens build and image quality. The great range provided me with the ability to use one lens for the entire shoot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic Lens! After doing extensive research and trials of several lense, I decided to purchase this one, and I am really impressed! I am semi-pro, and mainly use the lens for portraits, candid and scenery shots. I took it on a family vacation, let my husband (whose photog skills are usually severely lacking :0 ) use it, and I was floored with the shots that he created! It is very quick to respond and focus, and I love the range that it offers. I did not change lens the entire trip! Only draw back - the weight makes it a bit difficult to carry after long periods.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value in a solid all-around lens I manage a team of 5-6 semi-professional photographers in a summer camp setting. This is our de facto wide-tele lens. We use them in a wide variety of lighting conditions, and shoot both fast action and portrait-type shots. By and large, the shots produced by this lens are more than acceptable for marketing, sale, etc. In terms of negative aspects, the lens does hunt a bit to focus in low light. This is typical of lenses in this price range. For the money, I have yet to find a better all-around lens to leave on the camera 90% of the time. The IS is a huge help, and the lens has proven to be pretty tough...we use them 10-15 hours/day for 3 months in all sorts of weather (mainly hot!). If you're looking for a solid wide-tele lens at a great price-point, look no further.
