Leica 11-601 overview

  • 1Description

Blending a versatile wide-angle focal length with a sophisticated optical design, the Summilux-M 24mm f/1.4 ASPH. from Leica is a fast prime designed for M-mount rangefinder cameras. Characterized by its bright f/1.4 maximum aperture, this lens also incorporates a series of anomalous partial dispersion glass elements, and one aspherical element, that help to control color fringing and various aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness. A floating elements system is also used for maintained image quality throughout the focusing range, from 2.3' to infinity.

Wide-angle prime features a bright, fast f/1.4 maximum aperture to benefit working in low-light conditions and for greater control over depth of field.
Five anomalous partial dispersion elements reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for increased clarity as well as consistent, even illumination and well-corrected vignetting.
One aspherical element suppresses spherical aberrations and distortion for improved sharpness.
Floating elements system achieves consistent image quality throughout the focusing range, even at the minimum focusing distance of 2.3'.
The front of the lens is male threaded to accept the included lens hood and the hood is designed to accept Series 7 filters.

Leica 11-601 reviews

Summilux-M 24mm f/1.4 ASPH. Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Leica M Summilux 24mm F1.4 ASPH Lens I have been waiting for this lens after I tested at Leica show room 2 years ago. Now available in US, so I purchase it. So far, I shot, using Leica M9, about 400 pictures in various F settings. The sharpness is far superior than my previous lens Elmarit 24mm F2.8. No visible distortion. The BOKE is OK. hardware wise, The ring does not have enough deep thred and difficult to rotate quickely. so I taped rubber band. Hood can hold S7 filter, I have old one, but can not hold S7 pola filter. it seems the ring is a bit smaller that it used tone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gorgeous Leica Lens, Lots of Character This is a lens that one can easily fall in love with or feel disappointed in. It's intended design and use is street photogrpahy however I am a landscape photographer and needed to learn all it's nuances to appreciate it's virtues. Firstly it has an extreme curvature of field, if it is focused 60 feet away there will be sharp areas in the frame on the sides at 20 feet or less, think of this as an inverted U or n shape curvature. Normal curvature is backward, this one is frontward. For landscapes it means this has to be constantly kept in mind when composing. But once known it can be used to great benefit. A 24mm lens should be used to emphasize close subjects and de-emphasize distant objects such as horizons. The horizon in the corners will not be as sharp as center but if the lens is used as intended with close-object-emphasis then the curvature of field is really a benefit. If you want super sharp flat field images the Leica 24mm f3.8 is perhaps the best wide-angle lens available, it is really breathtaking. The summilux has more character and as such can be used to benefit the images taken once mastered. It is a Leica lens and as such has superb contrast and color rendition, the sharpness it there, not cutting edged like many Leica lenses but certainly enough for very large prints with the M9 and M240. The lens gets panned by those who seek perfection, and is loved by those who see it's character and exploit it for creative purposes. I would recommend this lens to anyone who wishes to study it and learn it well, it may be one of the best current Leica lenses available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Wide Enough This lens is a very comfortable weight and size. The M Camera is well balanced with this lens attached. An external viewfinder is absolutely essential (I use the EVF)for good framing. This lens captures a substantially wider field than does the 28 mm lens and it has minimal distortion (almost undetectable).
