Domke RuggedWear Shooter's overview

  • 1Description

The brown Domke F-2 RuggedWear Shooter's Bag is made to carry one to two DSLR cameras with four to six lenses and accessories. It is made of water-resistant canvas material coated with waxes and oils; the fabric produces a unique distressed and weathered look. The shoulder bag is made to hug the shooter's hip closely. It offers sensible access to the equipment with a great space-to-size ratio. The bag features a removable padded bottom, military-specification hardware, webbing, and adjustable closures. There are six compartments including a four-compartment padded insert, and six pockets including two side and two front pockets. The non-slip Gripper Strap runs completely around the bag. Included is a removable hand carrying strap.

Domke cases are made in the USA.

Canvas material coated with waxes and oils, so the fabric produces a unique distressed and weathered look right from the start. The treated fabric protects the bag from inclement weather, but retains the breathability of cotton
To return the bag to its original appearance, it includes an ointment to reapply to the fabric
Adjustable closures on the main flap allow you to easily close even the most "overstuffed" bag
Removable padded bottom stiffener

    Domke RuggedWear Shooter's reviews

F-2 RuggedWear Shooter's Bag (Brown) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 177.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from After two years of use... I have to say that after two years of use, I'm slightly disappointed with the Ruggedwear line. It's a great bag (don't get me wrong) but compared to the original fabric, the Ruggedwear wax material is much thinner, and is already developing decently sized holes in the bottom corners. That's after only two years of use... the newspaper I work at has an original F-2 in black that is easily 10+ years old, and it's in about the same shape as mine. I love Domke and the care that they put into their products but there's no doubt in my mind that the original style fabric is much better, thicker, and more rugged. As soon as this one wears out completely, I'm going back to the old style fabric.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from waxy exterior, functional interior I run a summer rock climbing camp for children so I spend 3 out of 5 days of the week out in the woods. I use it to carry my 5D and 4 lens' around. I could probably squeeze another body or a flash into the bag if I needed to. The tough, waxy exterior held up well in a rainstorm that I was caught in, all equipment was dry. The shoulder strap has two lines of rubber sewn into it so I rarely have to worry about the bagt slipping off of my shoulder. The clips that secure the bag closed seem a little dated and are difficult to open in a hurry. The top cover should be a little larger on the sides to protect the interior from the elements if caught in a storm. I would recommend this product time after time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from so close to just what i need i was looking for a smaller bag for quick portrait sessions or street stuff... something that can look cool, throw over my shoulder and safely carry a 50, 85 and 70-200mm. it does.... sort of... i needed a third party insert of padding and it's still not perfect... maybe i just haven't figured out the ideal math to make it work for the above mentioned glass... i did do a fair amount of research and i realize i may have to make my own!? overall it's a dang fine bag if you don't need to carry a lot of glass and don't mind having your body(s) detached and tucked in end pockets... like so many of the youtube videos show...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect bag for photojournalism! I love the bag - the functional design, the size, the material, the look. Like many others do, I've owned many different types of bag. They are all good only at certain things. But this one is my best pick overall. I shoot journalism style, and this bag just fit my 2 cameras with 77mm lenses attached, plus 2 extra medium lenses, light meter & shotgun mic right in the main compartment. For shooting events, one side pocket fits 3 SB-800's, while the other one hosts 4 pocket-wizards! Of course during events I don't carry this full bag all the time, so you got to watch its weight! This is the first bag my wife happy with my spending.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect camera bag I have been traveling all over the world with SLR cameras and lenses since 1980. The bag is perfect for 1 camera, 2-3 lenses and a flash. Even if it's a medium large bag it's easy to move around in crowded places. Where the usual padded cordura bag wil bounce from yoyr hips, this bag wil sit close and snug to your body. You dont need all that padding most other bags have. Dont be afraid bending and rearrange the inerior to fit, if you carry your camera with the lens on, as I do most of the times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So good, I've bought 2 I love this bag. I originally bought a used one that had some rough wear and tear. After a few years and weddings, some of the seems started ripping. So, instead of looking for other bags, I just bought a brand new one. This bag fits what I need for almost any situation. You can fit 2 bodies 3-6 lenses (double stack small primes in the deep dividers), a flash, and tons of accessories in the front and side pockets. Its a thin material without external padding so it conforms to your body. Some might like it, some might not. But that also means you can cram more into the bag because it will deform. If i had to nitpick for faults, I would say the hand strap needs some work. It can cause the bag to lean forwards or backwards instead of staying upright. But I'm usually using the shoulder strap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much gear, such a discreet bag Your only considered a professional photographer when you have a closet filled with camera bagsWell i guess i am 1/2 way there, after a few years of changing equipment i have had more than a few bags.My challange like many was a bag that would take all or most of my rig and let me carry it through an airport without anyone blinking an eye about how much it might weight. This bag fit the bill completely and then some.On a recent trip i carried this rig in it.D3 Body17-35mm24-70mm70-200mm60mm macroSB-900GPS+remote trigger8 x 77mm filtersSU-800Pixel Pocket Rocket500ml Plastic bottle of Whiskey (dry airline)All lenses were hood reversed, my intention was not to be able to get the gear out, just to transport it.That is far far far more than i expected it to carry. The shoulder strap is truely no slip, the little carry handle is very handy also.I went with the waxwear bag as i wanted a good looking bag, i certainly got what i paid for, i have had several compliments on it.I wanted a bag that was very discreet, so tamrak and lowepro were out the window because everyone knows they make bags for heavy camera users, might as well put a sign on your bag that say My bag is over the carry on luggage limit. Did i get what i wanted? On a recent photography tour with @ the tour leaders saw me in the hotel lobby and for a moment said to themselves that can't be him, no way that bag has enough gear to be a photographerMy only complaint is that the flap closes with two fasteners that are quite hard to get open, i am sure they will never fall open so thats a possitive, but i felt they were a little hard to open for anyone using the bag on the go, your hands might be stronger than mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Shooter's Bag Everything about this bag is perfect. I like the feel of the fabric; I like the quality of the craftsmanship; I like the hooks; I like the durability, and I like the size. The size is perfect. I have read some folks say that they didn't like the hooks. In light of that, this is a shooters back that you could hand-down to your next generation photographer, and then the next one after that. This is not a throw-away camera bag. Also, the size, much bigger and it would soon be too big to hop to and fro, much smaller and you would be looking for space to put things. For me and my needs, this is the best shooter's bag on the market.
