Shure X2u Reviews

Small But Mighty

What I like most about this simple to set up and use adapter is that the quality and audio characterizes of whatever mic you plug into are maintained as the sound passes into your recording or sending system. I produce and host radio programs, and my clients or guests who use the X2u sound great. Highly recommended.

Noisy

I got this audio interface to pair with the Rode Podcaster mic so I could use it for zoom meetings. Listening back to the audio interface, even with the mic gain lowered all the way and the microphone unplugged, there's just a completely audible noise level that's very obvious, no matter which computer or USB port I use. I thought I just had a bad copy, so I RMA'd it and got a replacement, but I still have the issue in the new copy. In contrast, using a Zoom F6 in the same USB ports gives me an inky, inaudible noise floor. If you're using a really hot microphone, this could work because you could set the mic gain low and lower the gain on your computer to suppress the noise, but honestly I just don't think this has good preamps, despite what a lot of the reviews said.

good sound and simple setup

I bought this to simplify my mic setup for meetings. I was using my Zoom H6 as a XLR-to-USB interface but got tired of having to set it up every time I wanted to use it. This powers on with the USB bus and is ready to go right away. I cannot use the headphone jack, unfortunately, because this is plugged into the back of a microphone base and the headphone jack faces down to my desk. Other than that, this is working perfectly and the sound seems better than through the H6.

Highly recommend

The X2u Ain't Messing Around

Out of all the audio interfaces that you plug into the mic, the Shrue X2u is the best. It's built from the same material that was used to forge Thor's Hammer and not only can it take a beating, it's capable of delivering one too (in the case of self-defense). Also, unlike it's cheaper wannabe competitors, the sound on this is CLEAN and with minimal noise. Finally, its rectangular shape makes sure it doesn't roll of the table (though even if it fell, I doubt this tanky monster would even feel it). Highly recommended and worth the price. You get what you pay for, so pay for greatness and get the Shure X2u.

Works as specified

I'll use this with an Audio-Technica wireless system to do a live streaming event at a high school reunion. Needed something that would provide a higher-quality audio source than the microphone in my DSLR, through my laptop and the Magewell USB Capture HDMI card into OBS Studio. You can also place a mixer ahead of this adapter, as it can accommodate a line level source with its volume control, so you can connect just about any audio source to it. Haven't detected any ADC noise so far. Very useful tool for the price.

Flawless plug and play

Wanted to start content creation on my mac with an XLR microphone. The x2u was immediately recognized as a mic, no config needed. It came packaged (too) securely. It's built solid, which may be a concern if you're using a cheaper mic arm that cant take the extra weight. Headphone jack on the side is actually way more convenient than the back of my computer! Only wish the gain dial had levels marked on it so I could keep it consistent between adjustments.

Can this be used to import other instruments using a male XLR to female 1/4" adapter, or is this for microphone use only?
Asked by: Thomas
I think it is for microphone use only. I think you would want to use a 'direct box' between the instrument and the x2u. I have never tried this myself.

Will the X2U driver a Rode Procaster? The max gain in the specs is 50db which is what the mic needs per Rode.
Asked by: Cory
Yes, the Shure X2u XLR to USB Microphone Signal Adapter will drive the RODE Procaster Broadcast-Quality Dynamic Microphone, but it is possible that you may want more gain. You can use something inline to increase the gain, such as a Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter CL-1 Mic Activator (B&H # CLCL1) together with the mic and interface, which can add up to 25 dB of clean gain. Another option is to use a different USB audio interface that has more built-in gain, such as the Solid State Logic SSL 2 Desktop 2x2 USB Type-C Audio Interface (B&H # SOSSL2), which provides up to 62 dB of gain, or the PreSonus Revelator io44 Ultracompact 4x2 USB Type-C Audio Interface (B&H # PRRVLTRIO44), which provides up to 60 dB of gain through the mic input.
