Kirk BL-5DIIG overview

  • 1Description

The Kirk BL-5DIIG L-Bracket is an ultra-compact, lightweight tripod-mount bracket that is custom designed to snugly fit a Canon 5DMKII camera body with the BG-E6 grip attached. Machined from a single piece of 6061T6 industrial strength aluminum, it provides full access to all switches and sockets.

This design allows you to release, turn, and remount your camera in mere seconds, when switching from horizontal to vertical orientation and back. It is especially ideal for use with shorter macro, wide-angle, and tilt-shift lenses.

For use with quick release tripod mount systems that use the Arca Swiss type clamp.
Designed to allow use of the Canon Remote Switch, even in vertical format.

BL-5DIIG L-Bracket for Canon 5DMKII Camera Body is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why Did Wait Years Befoe Buying One? Solidly constructed with a precision fit the L Bracket made by Kirk Enterprise becomes an indispensable accessory once you become accustomed to it. Makes switching between portrait and landscape orientation a breeze when using a tripod and head. I keep asking myself Why did I wait so long before buying one?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple good piece of gear Great piece of gear that easily connects to my Kirk Ball Head. I do not shoot tethered as I do not care to have all that garbage in the way of my shooting, but there is easy access to the terminals for photo transfer etc. Having the Manfrotto Proball 468RC, the Kirk Heavy Duty was almost a complete duplicate, but Manfrotto does not make the L Bracket, so the huge hit for both was a little hard to take in the shorts for the capability of steady portrait shots but necessary for my work. I also do a lot of pano photography, and the sagging camera was aggravating. The one negative is the need for the required Allen wrench to affix and remove the bracket. No other system requires such a tool.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from BL-5DIIG L-Bracket for Canon 5DMKII Came I own this bracket now for 2 weeks or so and used it quite a lot and it is extremely useful and convenient. The only thing is I own a 3rd party battery grip and I had to rasp a little off the battery grip to make the bracket fit. No big deal for me but good to know.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A well conceived and executed product My primary use for the L-bracket is taking formal wedding group shots. I can quickly change back and forth between vertical and horizontal for different sized groups, all without having to level the camera between changes. Nobody likes to wait for the photographer! This product has been perfect for this. While one might consider it a pricey way to take vertical pictures, I couldn't be happier with it! It's thoughtfully designed and built to a high level of quality. It supports the camera securely in both orientations. In fact, it's more rugged than I expected, attaching to the camera at two points, the tripod support and the left strap bracket. Not only does it clamp to the strap bracket (all required tools are provided), it also provides a new strap attachment point to replace the original one used for mounting the L-bracket to the camera. It adds little weight and it has smooth edges and rounded corners throughout which help the camera slip easily in and out of a camera bag or backpack without catching on, or chewing up the compartments. As advertised, it provides access to all of the camera connectors on the left end of the camera, with the bracket in place. Kirk also offers an optional spacer which provides sufficient standoff when the camera is mounted vertically to permit tethered shooting without over-bending the attached USB cable. The bracket works seamlessly with my ARCA Swiss Ball Head and QR bracket. I've found nothing about the bracket that I don't like and look forward to years of use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kirk L Plate is the bomb! This is the plate to get if you love your Camera! It can go from portrait to landscape in 7 seconds, and is rock solid. I hang a lot of money off this L bracket, with little or no worry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very useful I use it especially for landscape and portrait photography. I like to be able to change the orientation of the camera without changing the center of gravity on the tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kirk L Bracket for 5DMarkII. Seems really silly to spend $ for a vertical shoot. I was shocked by the price and went on a shoot without it. The shoot called for a vertical. With my 5DMII and a rented Tilt Shift 24mm Version II ($2000) on a Manfrotto ball head, I attempted the vertical shoot only to catch my camera falling out of the clip. That was the end of the shoot and I broke down and bought the L bracket.
