The Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base is a gimbal-type tripod head that incorporates an elevated tilt mechanism and adjustable platform to make the camera/lens' center of gravity and tilt axis of the head be perfectly aligned.

Things once thought of as impossible with a ball head are nothing short of mundane with a Wimberley, because a weightless camera/lens combo (even a 600mm f/4 w/ large body) can literally be controlled with one finger. Point the rig where you want and take the hand away, and it stays exactly where you put it.

The Version II head is more compact and lightweight, features a redesigned panning base, "soft-touch" knobs, and includes a built-in Arca-type compatible quick release base. An Arca-type quick release plate is required and is available separately.

The built-in industry-standard Arca-type quick release clamp makes it compatible with the many different plates available from Arca-Swiss, Acratech , Kirk, Wimberly, Really Right Stuff, Foba, etc.
The head does not have separate controls for tension and locking, but the locking controls deliver smooth resistance with diminished "stick-slip".
The overall height of the head is 9.25" (23.5cm), with the lens platform adjustable from 3.5 to 7.1" (8.9 x 18cm). The centerline of a balanced lens will be approximately 8.4" (21.3cm) above the bottom of the head.
Distance from the mounting surface of the platform to the tilt axis: Adjustable from 1.1 to 4.8" (2.8 to 12.2cm).
The head's redesigned panning base has zero play and the pan locking knob has been moved to the side of the head; this allows the user to easily operate both knobs with the same hand.
Lobed "soft-touch" knobs provide a more comfortable grip and perform better when using gloves.
Powder coated/anodized finish.
Made in the U.S.A.

WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 422.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Look no further I'm shooting mostly sports and carry Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM and EF 300 f/2.8 with me. I thought I'm fit enough to handhold the 300 and that the monopod is just good enough for a support... man, once you've tried this and realized that you can shoot 99% like handheld (movements) but with triple the precicion and stability, not to mention that the whole rig weights next to nothing in your hands, you'll learn to love this thing, stop regretting your spent dollars, and start blaming yourself not having purchased it earlier! It requires though that you've got a possibilty to use tripod...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like a 21 year old scotch I do not an open budget, I always research a lot and buy good products but not the top line. It was the time to research for a gimbal head. I notice the WH-200 is the best, but very expensive. I thought lenses you constantly buy, get use, sometimes broken, But a gimbal will last forever, so I make an efort and purchase it. I cant compare it because is the only one i have and use, but I am shure it is one of the best products you can have in your hands, since you touch it for the first time you love it. The manufacture, material, design, everything is high end. Iam very glad i make the efford to buy it. If you are looking for a gimbal this one is incredible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought Used - Looks and Feels New I bought this used for $130 less than retail price. Let me say how massive this thing is. It is 9 inches by 9 inches and it is a solid metal piece that feels lighter than you think it should be. I bought this used and it looks and feels brand new. The base is easy to screw on to a tripod head and the dials move with ease. it was a cinch to clip my 70-200 VRII lens to the plate and it looks small compared to this gimbal head. I have the intention of later buying bigger faster teleconverters but could not pass up on this deal for the gimbal head.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from amazing WOW! I had the head kicking around for a couple of weeks and was debating why I spent so much and was I going to use it, etc. Had some awesome spring bird opportunities develop from my deck and quickly figured out why people pay so much for this head...it's AMAZING! I couldn't believe the ease with which I was able to adjust for quickly moving birds shots as they flitted from tree to tree! I got lazy and tried to leave it on for some panoramas on a sloping grade vs putting my ball-head back on. Ball-head is definitely not going anywhere anytime soon as this Wimberley definitely meets a specific need. Still, for birds, it is fantastic and I'm very glad I dropped the $ for it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flawless design!!!!! Like so many people, I didn't want to spend the money for this Tripod Head. So I bought three different heads hoping they would perform as well as their reviews. In hindsight, I should of saved that money and bought the best! It's no wonder people sing praises about this tripod head! It spins so easily vertically and horizontally, locks into place when needed, a flash bracket can be attached if your shooting in low light and need a flash. So easy to assemble, not too heavy. What's not to love...except the price:)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Stable / Super Flexible I bought the Gimbal head for my 600mm f4L lens. Once the lens is properly balanced, the gimbal head works so well that I can use very slow shutter speeds even when the head isn't tightly locked. In other words, I can quickly pan in all directions and not lock down the adjustments. This surprised me since with most tripod/tripod heads, any excuse for vibration causes blurring. Not with this head. I use the head with a very heavy duty tripod, but I think the gimbal head works so well because the lens is perfectly balanced around its center of gravity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth the money I had been eyeing a Gimbal head for a long time but was dissuaded by the price and kept telling myself that my current Ball mount was good enough and for many scenarios it was. Photographing the recent eclipse event and trying to compensate for the slight drop even with a lens collar was very frustrating. I have been using the new head for about a month and realize the money is well worth it, I should have bought it before the eclipse. The action is very smooth and the difference in the camera/lens movement was just like the total eclipse, night and day. The construction is very solid and well designed. A possible down side for some users could be the additional weight in the backpack/camera bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Amazing Purchased the WH-200 at the same time as the Canon 500mm, along with a 3 series Gitzo tripod. The WH200 is simply unbelievable. Once set-up, it makes using the 500mm a absolute pleasure its so easy. I'm a large and strong guy, hand holding the 500 is not realistic. This lens would be almost unusable without the WH-200/tripod. Build quality is first class, very easy to set-up, use and adjust. I think one other reviewer said it - probably the best overall photography gadget money, any money, can buy, when you need to handle a super telephoto. By the way, the 3 series Gitzo with WH-200 is plenty strong enough for the 500mm on 1D body - a question I had.
