The Dahle 552 20-1/8" Professional Rolling Trimmer is a large format trimmer seen in engineering departments, framing shops, galleries and schools around the world. It quickly and effortlessly cuts large workpieces to precise size. Its features include ground upper and lower steel blades along with an automatic paper clamp. The rugged base helps maintain its stability while the clearly marked surface grid gives you precise registration points.

As with all Dahle Rotary Trimmers, safety is ensured by totally enclosing the blade in a plastic housing. For larger pieces (or even for small ones), this trimmer can be wall mounted for even more exact cuts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Oh that is how that works ? Cuts a nice clean edge. The cutter head has to be parked at one end or the other to allow paper to be moved under the plastic paper holder as the plastic will help hold the paper for you when the cutter head is moved then releases it. It appears to cut inkjet and photo paper very well. I have not checked it for square to the guide so far but it is easy to see the edge being cut when it lines up under the plastic. It could have some instruction about the holder being lowered as I was first concerned about it marking the paper but eventually it becomes obvious. Normally only cutting a page at a time edges. Would be nice if some information was included for replacement blade when required.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for Price In the past have bought Rotatrim cutters which are well built but also expensive. Bought Dahle as it does the job at a cheaper price. Not as well made so more care needed to look after. Wish someone would design a print trimmer that also had an extendable measure/ruler on the right side of the trimmer that you could pull out to always give the correct amount to cut off or an extension of the right angle edge that the print bumps up to,so that the ruler extends to the left beyond the width of the baseboard. Would make trimming large Ink jet prints so much quicker than having to measure each one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Budget 20+ Cutter I bought this to accompany the Epson Stylus Pro 4880 17 printer. I chose this size so that I could print 16x20 on 17 wide media and be able to cut down to borderless after printing. The action on this cutter is delightfully smooth, and the paper hold-down works great every time. Like one other user I found that the guide edge was not square to the cutting edge, but I was able to adjust it with a piece of standard copy paper and a square using trial-and-error. I haven't used any other trimmers, so I can't say that this is better than any other trimmers, but it does precisely what it is supposed to do, leaves a beautiful clean edge, and can trim even the slimmest diagonal sliver from a finished print. I've used it on up to 290 gram/sq meter paper and it hasn't slowed in the slightest. Overall, it does the job at a competitive price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Smooth, precise cuts and quick work We have only had this trimmer for a few weeks and used it on one project (trimming menus and programs on card stock for a wedding), but inital impressions are very good. Cuts were extremely precise, the cutter moved along the rails smoothly, qua;ity of materials is high, and we were able to cut through multiple sheets of card stock at a time with ease. Would give 4.5 stars if I could with half a star off for no instructions (took me a few minutes to figure out how the clamp at the cutting edge worked automatically).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One of the better trimmers. Dahle has a good reputation. Compared to what is available in most local art shops, the Dahle is far superior. ....Overall a very good product. There is some plastic, mostly just the guide, end caps, etc. All the major components are of various metals. The only disadvantage to US users is that most of the guides are marked in metric units. The left edge (call it the x axis)has inches, but the other axis does not.Price point is perfect for the quality and size. Again, worth the extra cost over what may be available in a local retailer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the Trimmer - Love the Price Tried both the Rotatrim and this one... the Rotatrim was a touch better but it was not 2x (the price difference better), it was, maybe, 10%. I use this trimmer to trim photos that I've printed in my home studio, mainly for personal use. Though it is a bit excessive for just family photos, and whatnot. That said, I do print 13 x 19 size photos on a regular basis. The other bit I liked about this one, over the Rotatrim, is that I had to go with a 24 unit in the Rotatrim. For those that only print up to 17, or 19, this one gives you a half foot+ of extra space, in the end, and still trims any photo you can put into the thing. Overall, I love this trimmer. It's clean, it's crisp, and does an amazing job. WORST instruction manual ever! So, don't expect to learn anything from it. The only drawback, really, is that ALL of the markings (with the exception of a few secondary ones) are in metric. I trim to English/Imperial dimensions. That's been a bit tougher. The Rotatrim has a clear imperial marking system, another benefit to it.... but, still not worth double $$$.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product I've had the trimmer for a couple of weeks and like the build quality. I use it for photo trimming and the action is smooth and firm. As others have noted, the paper guide does not come square to the cutting edge and needs to be adjusted before serious use. That doesn't appear to be a problem given the screws on the bottom holding it but I haven't actually done that yet so I can't say for certain. But definitely a good quality device that sits well on its feet and cuts single sheets of photo papdr with the crispness and cleanness one would hope for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, but mostly METRIC This is a quality trimmer, as others have noted. But while the edges are labeled in both metric and US, the lines are metric only. So it is difficult to line up a long cut correctly.
