The PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave is part of an ultra-versatile radio slave system, and is dedicated specifically to the Nikon i-TTL flash control system. It simply slides directly into the camera's hot shoe, and there are no special settings to make or modes to call up. Use the camera, on-camera flash, or flash commander controls for flash compensation, zone and ratio control. It supports single or multiple dedicated flash units.

The FlexTT5 is the ideal addition to any Nikon i-TTL flash system. Since this system works on digital radio technology, it can support i-TTL operation around corners, out-of-sight, or in bright sunlight.

The FlexTT5 is a "Transceiver", meaning it can be used either as a transmitter placed into the camera's hot shoe, in combination with another FlexTT5 unit on the flash end, or as a receiver, with a MiniTT1 transmitter-only unit placed on the camera's hot shoe.

2 Channel Settings + Learn Mode

Each setting can be programmed to support up to 20 ControlTL channels for TTL photography, or 32 standard channels for manual flash photography. The FlexTT5 Transceiver also has a three-zone selector switch, which integrates with Nikon zones and ratios. The Learn Mode allows the unit to detect the channel used by any other unit in the area.

HyperSync & High-Speed Sync Technology

Supports flash sync speeds of up to 1/500th sec. High-Speed Sync auto syncs flash system with the camera's shutter speed setting, up to 1/8000th.

Built-In Hot Shoe

Features a hot shoe on the top, so that you can still mount a flash unit directly onto the camera. This allows you to combine your remote flash with the on-camera flash, or use the on-camera flash for additional i-TTL control only.

Camera/Flash Ports

The FlexTT5 Transceiver has two plug-in ports for use with remote Nikon i-TTL cameras, or other non-TTL flash units. Camera remote triggering also requires use of a camera-specific "motor cord".

Remote Camera Triggering/Relay Mode

Can be used to trigger a camera remotely. Requires use of a camera-specific "motor cord". Auto Relay Mode allows you to trigger a remote camera in sync with a remote flash.

Low-Profile Design

The FlexTT5 lies flat to stay out of the way and uses a flip-up antenna for additional range when needed.

Configurable and Upgradeable

The FlexTT5 features a mini-USB port, which makes it upgradeable and "future-proof" for continuous improvements and compatibility upgrades. The included PocketWizard Utility software allows you to select custom settings through the USB connection, and to set it to use specific channels used by other Pocket Wizard units.

The Flex TT5 does not work.. when I bought 5 of these back in the day it was promised that you could do upgrades to the hardware to accept new cameras... guess what? it doesnt any longer, I contacted the company to see if they could honor their promise by at least taking the old ones as a small credit towards new ones and they said no way... not a big fan of their products

I have been using Pocketwizards for close to eight years and needed to pick up a new one. It is nice when something works a company is not always trying to come up with a new version that is not compatible with the older ones you already have. Thank you Pocketwizard for making a great remote lighting trigger.

FlexTT5 Pocket Wizard F/Nikon DSLR Will Not Work With Godox

1st, the Pocket Wizard works very well and does everything that it is supposed to do. It's a great unit! 2nd, I was told by sales that the Pocket Wizard would trigger a Godox Flash. After spending 3 very hours trying to make the two units work together I called user support at B&H the next morning. After speaking with the consultant, who in-turn spoke with another consultant, they determined that the two systems would not work together. I returned the Godox flash.

I pair these FlexTT5s with a Nikon D850 and an off-camera Nikon Speedlight. Couldn't be simpler to use, and so far it's been very reliable. I'm not sure why they don't see these in a 2-pack since you need two to make it work.

Received PW TT5 to marry with PW Plus X, as advised by B&H lighting sales rep but TT5 arrived with no instructions, no warranty card, and a USB cord with no connection aperture that would accept the cord. Emailed Pocket Wizard consumer support for clarification and was told the model I should have had recommended was the PW plus IV which has apparently been discontinued and replaced by the PW Plus IVe. As of now I am awaiting a return authorization to exchange TT5 for the Plus IVe.

I thought when I first bought these that there was a learning curve, or that different batteries would help. But they just don't ever work. I thought this was a good company and the flextt5 and minit1 are my only experiences with them. Every single job I've ever brought these to has had issues. Fully recharged batteries or brand new alkalines doesn't make a difference. Now one of them stopped working entirely. I can count the times I've used successfully them on two hands. Most gigs I bring them to I end up using an optical slave because they won't work.

I am planning to get two FlexTT5's; one for my D7100 & other for my SB-910. Pls guide whether I need to purchase any other cable/cords apart from the two FlexTT5's.

Nothing else would be needed; all items necessary to use your setup together would be included with the PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Remotes. The FlexTT5 would connect to the top of the hot shoe on the Nikon D7100 DSLR camera, and would connect to the hot shoe on the bottom of the Nikon SB-910 Speedlight Flash. The batteries needed to operate the FlexTT5 are included with the units.

How do you trigger the camera/flash remotely with the Flex TT5? can it be done wirelessly or is a cable required?

You need two Flex TT5. One is one your camera and gives the trigger. Flash: you insert the flash on the socket of the second TT5. Camera Remote: you need a cable that connect the secong TT5 with the camera. Usually Nikon needs a 10-Pin cable that will trigger the camera, but this depends on your model.

How far away can this trigger a remote camera? Newer models can be at distances around 1000 feet.

The distance to trigger the camera using flex tt5 for both the trigger and as a receiver is up to 1200 feet. But with interference and environment it can be as low as 30 feet.

Is this compatible with a Nikon D850 and a Nikon Z7?

The D850 is compatible with the radios but we do not yet have compatibility for the Z7. The Z7 is currently compatible with the FlexTT5s in Basic Trigger mode, for syncing up to X-sync in manual power.
