Profoto D1 Air 1000W/s Monolight
Key Features
 • 7 Stop Power Range
 • 100-240V
 • 2.0 Sec. Recycling Max. Power @120V
 • 300 Watt Modeling Light
The D1 Air 1000W/s Monolight is a significant refinement of the ComPact monolight series from the company which having become synonymous with professional strobe lighting, is now celebrating its 40th anniversary.

No stone has been left unturned in the provision of tech and convenience features that seem to derive from professional photographers' wish lists. The sleek matte-black, high-impact polycarbonate finish encases strobe design that goes beyond the highly visible LED readout and is digital from the ground up. The 7 stop power range breaks down to 1/10 stop increments providing flexibility, precision and consistency, made possible by dual mode SMPS capacitor charging.

A new built-in 77 degree reflector (5.12" diameter) maximizes case space and is ideal for umbrella and softbox use. Features that we've come to expect from Profoto over the years: short flash duration, rapid recycling, a bright 300W modeling lamp and heavy-duty cabling are all on-board.

Profoto Air System technology replaces the sync cord, allowing the head to be remotely triggered from as much as 300 meters (1000 feet) away using a Profoto Air Remote or Air Sync transceiver (sold separately). The Air Sync provides wireless triggering (8 channels) via hot shoe or mini plug, while the Air Remote provides wireless triggering as well as full-function head control over 8 channels in 6 distinct groups. Additionally, the D1 Air's syncing and complete functionality can be wirelessly controlled via your PC or Mac by using Profoto's optional Air USB with the included Studio software.

Can i control power levels on this unit with Profoto AirTtl?
Asked by: David
The Profoto AirTTL controller can be used for manual control of the D1. It cannot give you TTL or HSS.

question

Would you recommend Profoto D1 Air 1000 over a Profoto Pro-10 for a daily fashion ecommerce studio? What's the difference in performance/ durability?
Asked by: Clarita P.
The main difference is the amount of control that you would have. A D1 would give you only 7 stops of control while the Pro 10 pack would allow for 11 stops of control, as well as TTL communication with Nikon, Canon, or Sony cameras. The right choice comes down to how much control you need. Otherwise, both systems are durable, with the D1 being a more compact solution.

question

I take it there is no firmware or other upgrade/ modification available to allow the D1 to shoot HSS, correct? (I realize the D2 has that capability, but I own D1's.)
Asked by: Terence
The D1's were made about 6 years before TTL was developed for the B1. The D1 doesn't have the necessary guts to make it shoot HSS.

question

I like the price of this in the kit form over the b1 kit plus it also comes with stands and the remote also has both lights at 1000 ws over 500 on the b1. However I am unsure on what battery pack I could use to power these on location. Any ideas for good battery packs that would power these both at full power for at least a couple hundred shots?
Asked by: Jacob
The obvious choice is the Profoto BatPack. (Link below) Buy the best and you only cry once. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=728121&gclid=CPez_P2Mxs0CFQxZhgod6NADMg&is=REG&ap=y&m=Y&c3api=1876%2C91439130122%2C&A=details&Q=Other than that, I just use a small Honda gas genie.

question

Do I need an attachment for a softbox for the d1 air?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, you'll need a speed ring to attach a standard softbox to your D1 (or any other Profoto light). See the link below for details:http://bhpho.to/1g3aNlu
