    Pelican 1740 reviews

1740 Transport Case with Foam (Olive Drab Green) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 64.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Almost perfect-with one fatal flaw Typical excellent Pelican construction.... BUT, with one very fatal flaw in my opinion. There is ONLY handles on either end, no handle in the middle. This makes handling and loading this case extremely awkward, to downright difficult. I am 6' 4, and can barely extend my arms wide enough to reach both handles, and even still this is a nearly impossible way to try to lift the case without destroying your back if there is much weight in it. As it is designed now, it really takes two people to easily and safely move it. Too bad, if it had a handle in the middle, I would have given it 5 stars as it's perfect for my lightstands in every other way!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works half the time, missed key moments at a wedding Purchased as a stop-gap until I switch over to all native Sony lenses. I'd say this thing works as promised 50% of the time. The other half of the time, I have to unmount and remount the lens to get the camera to recognize it. You don't have to completely remove the lens. Pressing the release button and give it a quarter turn, then clicking it back into place does the trick. It wouldn't be that big of a deal if you're doing a planned shoot. As a wedding film maker, I'm doing a lot of running and gunning and switching frame rates for slow motion. I have missed some key moments because I was fiddling with my lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Black is the new Black. It's a Pelican. What else can I say? It's built like a brick $#!+house and able to take the beating that the boys doing luggage duty at O'Hare International Airport dish out.I removed the foam and then loaded this thing with 2 of my 10'x20' backdrops, 2 complete backdrop stands, my camera tripod, 2 rolls of gaffer tape, a few HD extension cords, a zip bag with 3 light stands for my Speedlights and 3 umbrellas, a plug-in powerstrip and enough hand clamps to pin my impatient client to his desk chair. The case swallowed it all and snugly snapped shut. Weighed in at 100 lbs on the United Airlines luggage scale. Skycap got a hernia lifting it onto the conveyor belt. No problem. I know my stuff is protected. It's a Pelican. What else can you say?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong Box but not big enough for my needs I just received this case and was disappointed since I wanted to use if to accommodate my strobe, ION Converter, battery, cables and the tripod for the light. Well the tripod did not fit but, the rest of the equipment fit. Now I am going to have to get the Pelican 1780 to see if my gear fit. On the good side, since I travel first class American Airline will not charge me for oversize but, the weight of the gear and what's inside may exceed the 70 lbs. limit for first class passengers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Case I bought this product to protect my company's presentation materials that are shipped multiple times throughout the year, all over the country. I have owned and used many different Pelican products in the past and have never been disappointed; they are virtually indestructable. The only real drawback to this case is that it doesn't have a side handle. A side handle would make this case much easier to load and unload from a vehicle. Pros: - Extremely well built and durable. - Foam can be customized to fit a variety of items. - Has wheels for easier transport. - Lockable. Cons: - Doesn't have a side handle (the only reason for the 4 stars). - A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needs a side handle It's a Pelican case - plastic protection perfection, not much else to say. However, as another reviewer states it REALLY REALLY needs a side handle. I often fly alone and this carries all my tripods, light stands, monopods, slider, etc., and it's so awkward getting it off the baggage claim, on and off shuttles, and into rental cars. There's really no where to grab and get a grip if you're trying to man-handle this thing alone. I didn't take a star off because the product does what it describes, it could just be improved upon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Believe the hype! I bought this case to transport lights for my production company. The case is secure and durable. I've heard great things about Pelican cases, but hadn't bought one until now. Despite the size, I'm able to transport this case by myself. It's not too heavy - doesn't have a side handle, which would be nice - but still worth the price and solid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great case for light stands, flat panel lights and misc. I am traveling on planes with this case right now. 1 Manfrotto 756B tripod, MVH502AH Head, MX2000 tripod, four small light stands, 2 Genaray Essential 240 flat panel lights with power cables, 2 umbrellas, Westcott Reflector Arm, small tool bag, 2 grip heads with Articulating arm, and it all fits! I wish the foam held up better after taking everything in and out but that is to be expected. I took the plastic identifier off the front because I knew the baggage handlers would break it right away. Great case though, great strong wheels. The baggage handlers and TSA have really tried to beat this up and it already has dings and dents on it after being on six flights but everything is safe inside and the case is not compromised at all. Getting in and out of cabs in the city has been easy. The driver grabs one end, I grab the other and we lift it in and out so easily. I even had to go into a building that did not have a ramp so I wheeled it up 12 steps, no problem. Pelican cases are the best!
