Sanken COS-11D Overview

The black Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone with Normal Sensitivity and 3.5mm Locking Sennheiser Connector is a subminiature lav mic designed to deliver clear, full-bodied sound and reliable performance, making it a popular choice among industry professionals in broadcast, TV, theater, film, videography, and more. 

Engineered to meet the standards of modern digital wireless microphone systems, the COS-11D is RF shielded to eliminate interference issues and ensure a pristine audio signal. The microphone capsule features a rectangular design that sits vertically, increasing the surface area and allowing this little mic to offer a rich, full sound that outperforms many larger models.

The mic's 50 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response rolls off extreme low end and provides accurate, transparent audio reproduction with a small presence boost in the 6 kHz area for crisp, intelligible speech. With a forgiving omnidirectional polar pattern that picks up sound in a 360° pattern, levels stay consistent—even when the subject turns away from the mic.

A water-resistant mesh screen protects against humidity, perspiration, makeup, bad weather, and other potential on-location issues, while the durable cable is also moisture resistant and built to stay soft and pliable, even after extended use. This version of the COS-11D terminates in a locking 3.5mm connector and is wired for use with Sennheiser transmitters. A metal windscreen, holder clip, rubber mount, and plastic case are included.

The camera-ready COS-11D features a subminiature capsule that enables the microphone to be inconspicuous and easily disguised in clothing or costumes. The unique vertical diaphragm design offers a clear and natural sound optimized for the human voice.
Normal Headroom for Standard Speech
This version of the mic features a normal sensitivity setting for standard speech at levels up to 123 dB SPL.
Omnidirectional Polar Pattern
The forgiving omnidirectional polar pattern picks up sound from all around the mic and provides a consistent frequency response, even for off-axis sound. This helps to supply clear, intelligible speech and vocals, even when the talent isn't speaking directly toward the microphone.

Bought this mic to step up my audio game and while the sound quality is amazing, the construction quality is subpar. The connection point got loose and audio gets cut with tons of frequent static noise. Will file for warranty but this will be the last mic I purchase from Sanken.

For years, I have been using COS-11D mics on actors for film. I am convinced it is the best lavalier microphone available. It is detailed and accurate, performing well across the entire frequency spectrum, including lows. Its personality is also a reasonably close match to the Schoeps MK41. It may not be the smallest, but it is small. Plenty of 3rd-party mounting accessories are available. This is the first one I have had in white. For some reason, the locking collar on this unit does not engage with my Sennheiser SK 500 G4 radios. It works fine on my SK 100 G3 radios, and also an MZA 900 P adapter I have.

Is there an option to connect it to a XLR input camcorder? Also will it work with my phone's 3.5mm headphone port?

A Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter, BH #ROVXLR, will allow you to plug this mic into a camera with XLR input, which would be able to provide 48 volt phantom power to the mic. To connect this to a smartphone, you would adapt the end to TRRS with a Rode SC4 3.5mm TRS Female to 3.5mm Right-Angle TRRS Male Adapter Cable for Smartphones, BH #ROSC4. The smartphone will power the mic in this case.

Saramonic seems like copy of Sony system so most probably will not work because wiring is not the same. It can be expensive gamble.

The Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone with Normal Sensitivity &amp; 3.5mm Locking Sennheiser Connector can run off of 3 to 10 V, and the Rode VXLR Pro provides 4 V, so the two would be compatible.

Do Sanken COS-11D for Sennheiser Evo work with other Wireless Transmitters like SONY, Lectrosonics etc.?

The 3.5mm connector for Sennheiser will not work with SONY or Lectrosonics- the connector wiring is different for these, so the connector would need to be re-wired to work.

I'm confused about power requirements. Says AA or 12 to 52V. Obviously not phantom powered since it's unbalanced. Apparently works with Sennheiser body packs. Does this mic work with typical low voltage electret power from recorders?

The Sanken COS- 11DPT is made for the Sennheiser EW wireless systems. It has a 3.5mm locking collar connector on the end of the mic, unique to Sennheiser wireless body packs. It should work with your recorder if it has plug in power. Also it is very likely it will not fit your recorder as the connector has a screw down threaded collar for a secure connection to the body pack. This collar will often get in the way of a standard 3.5mm input as the collar might stop the connector from making contact.
