    Studio 1 Productions AM-300 reviews

AM-300 Headphone Monitor Amplifier for Boom Operators is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from It does what it says it will do I have to say I'd recommend this product because it does exactly what it says it will do. I was a little disappointed by the materials used. It's a lightweight cheaper plastic and feels like it needs to be handled delicately which is never a good idea on a busy set. Mine came with a screw having come loose and rattling around inside the casing. After using it I'm disappointed at the location of the XLR inputs. Putting them on the side instead of the bottom puts unnecessary strain on the XLRs as the boom operator is moving around and when sticking out from the operator tends to catch on things. All this being said it does work and the sound quality both from the unit and passing through the unit to the mixer are fine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from solid piece of kit this little guy does exactly what it is supposed to. the only reason it is not 5/5 is because the amp is a little noisy in the boom operator's cans. that noise is only in the headphones and the audio passes through clean and clear to the mixer/recorder. it is light weight and a good size for the features.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Good product, the downside is it is made of plastic. I wish it was louder on the headphone jack

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good, able to work with. Transmitted the signal to Sony UWP-V Series to camera and sound was fine, no noise. However I did have interference with the Eartec 4 Digicom Communication Radios. Operater could not use them or be near anyone wearing them. Cheap plastic case had hard time getting the battery cover off during the shoot but seems to be working fine. Could be a better case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good unit, works great. The AM-300 is a very good little headphone amp. Worked perfectly right out of the box. I found the plastic box to be very rugged, as I have dropped it several times. The audio is clean the headphone out is very loud. You just have to read the instructions and make sure you are using a set of headphones with a SPL of 112 or higher.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not a good product I used the am300 to monitor audio while booming. The first box would not send audio through the output so I returned it. The second box is going back because of noise on the output from internal loose connections. It is made of cheap plastic and is not for professional use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from room for improvement I really wanted to like this thing. The price wasn't bad, the design was ok, but once I got it I realized that the major problem I had with it was with the xlr output signal. Most of the reviews on here mentioned that the headphone output was a little noisy but the output signal to the camera was fine. Unfortunately that is not the case, at least not with the model I received. I did 2 camera tests, one without the amp and just recording blind into my juicedlink, and the other with the amp. Now the headphones output on the amp was pretty noisy, but I expected that, however once I reviewed the footage on my computer I found that the sample without the amp was clean and clear, but the one with the amp contained some noise. It was not as bad as the headphone out but it was still noticeable and was really a disappointment. I don't mind having some noise on the headphone out as long as the signal output is clean, but sadly that is not the case with this amp. It's a shame cause I really wanted to like this piece of gear.
