Manfrotto Alu Compact Stand Reviews

No so great

Not impressed. Had to send one defective stand back. Having problems folding another stand. These replaced the Manfrotto stands I've used for 20 years and if I'm already having problems I don't see these lasing as long. I do like how they lock together.

great stands

Two of these pack up to be smaller than one of my larger, other-brand stands. They aren't nearly as beefy as other stands, but do an alright job holding a 600w strobe indoors. Wouldn't put a big light & heavy octobox on it though.

Finally found them

I searched for months to find the best stands for my travel kit. I wanted stands that are sturdy for their weight, take up much a small amount of space when collapsed, and have a wide footprint for stability. These stands fulfill all of my travel needs for weight, size/space, footprint, and load capacity. I would definitely purchase these again.

just waiting for my old light stands to break, now

These are the only stands I'm buying from now on. They are sturdy, quick to set up, and pack half the size of my thicker, non-stacking stands.

Great stand overall.

Overall this is a great stand. I use it with the Magmod 24 magbox. Holds the light really well. Lightweight and compact yet sturdy. Only drawback I have found so far is you have to tighten the little red knob on the legs really tight or it won't hold, like as hard as you can. Once it's tight it holds steady.

The perfect travel stand!

I've tried for years to find the perfect travel light stand. Something that will go to a reasonable height, be relatively light but still fit in a travel bag. This stand is all those things! I generally put all my stands, tripod and miscellaneous gear in a large Manfrotto rolling bag (I think it's actually supposed to be for a 3-light kit). In the past stands have either been too long and ended up destroying the bag, or too short to get lights as high as you need. This kit is awesome in the fact that they fit perfectly into my Manfrotto bag with a little room to spare. Also, all three stands click together which keeps them nicely stacked inside the case, taking up less room. And once the base is fully extended, it feels very sturdy. Granted, it is still relatively thin, aluminum stands. So you might not want to throw an Aputure 600D with a light dome on it and run it up to full height. But for most travel lights it should be more than sufficient. I've tried the model slightly smaller than this and the base is just to small and it doesn't give you a useable height. The size larger than this might be fine for studio work but are too big for travel IMHO. This model (the 1052BAC-3) is the one that I think the perfect travel light stand!

plastic is very brittle

they stack great for a few months then the plastic keeper breaks. Have written Manfrotto customer support multiple times to make a suggestion and try to buy replacement parts. Radio silence.

Seems OK

I've only used once so far. They feel flimsier than what I'd expect from Manfrotto but I assume that's because they were going for lightweight. So time will tell if the strength and durability is there or not. Compared to my other stands (most pretty cheap) they don't come off as remarkable. No immediate satisfaction for paying for higher end stands. The locking together is nice but that isn't reason enough for the price IMO. They do work just fine though.
