Wacom Intuos4 Overview

  • 1Description

The Intuos4 Digital Tablet from Wacom is a digital tablet, designed for use by digital artists and photographers. Ideal for use with imaging applications such as Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop, the tablet allows you to manipulate images with a digital pen: ergonomically identical to a traditional ink pen.

The Intuos4 is capable of recording 2048 levels of pressure, giving it the ability to recognize extremely subtle pressure for light brush strokes. It features a bank of customizable ExpressKeys and a finger-sensitive Touch Ring for enhanced control. These controls are located on one side of the tablet, in a symmetrical layout. This allows you to rotate the tablet 180°, giving equal functionality to both lefties and righties.

US residents who purchase this tablet are entitled to additional software from Wacom. You can download Nik Color Efex Pro WE6 and Wacom Brushes 3.0, both of which require Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to function. You are also entitled to your choice of two out of the following three options: Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac & Windows, Autodesk SketchBook Express 2010, and Corel Painter Sketch Pad. This allows you to choose the software that best suits your needs. All software is accessed via download from Wacom's web site.

    Wacom Intuos4 Reviews

Intuos4 Digital Tablet (Medium) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 288.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent A wonderful product with great functionality. I actually find the pressure levels to be almost too varied. It does take some getting used to, but once you do, the control provided is unmatched, at least in my experience.I love the size of the medium. For desk work it is wonderful, but if you plan to do a lot of travelling with it/moving about I would suggest the small. With that said, it is a seriously sleek machine and far from clunky. My only issue of note is that, when you go to @ to get the bundled software, do NOT choose painter sketchpad. The program could be great, but consistently crashes for no reason and feels incomplete/unfinished.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get it! Received mine yesterday from B&H and WOW! I knew my workflow was about to get a boost but I never anticipated it was going to be this significant. I was using a small Bamboo for a few yrs and it worked fine. I just needed a bigger work surface and simple things like on-tablet Mac option key, brush size adjustment as well as layer scroll thru. That's why I ordered the Intuos4. Long story short...did 3 images..right out of the box...full blown slickforce retouching...in about 20 minutes. Impressive by any standard. The tablet is very simple to use. You will hit the ground running with the Intuos4. Anyways, 5 well deserved stars from Germany.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wacom Intuos4 Digital Tablet (Medium) I purchased the tablet to do on-screen annotation during webinar-based presentations. I read reviews about the tablet before the purchase and it seemed that most of them were positive. There were occasional disgruntled customers but their sources of frustration seemed a bit picky to me. When I opened the product and connected it to my computer, I was impressed that I had purchased an excellent product and I have not changed my mind. I can't imagine being more satisfied. The instructions could contain more examples of use but most people who buy this product will be able to figure it out. I think I can.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I can't stand using a mouse now.! I use Adobe Products to produce textbooks for obsolete equipment. For years I have been using a mouse to produce technical illustrations. I finally broke down and bought a large Wacom tablet. After a total of about 30 minutes using this thing, ackwardly looking at the monitor and not at what I was drawing, I got the hang of it. I don't use a mouse any more - for anything. Not even the one supplied with the tablet. Since then, I purchased this medium sized tablet due to some space limitations. That's the only con to this as I see it. It takes up a bit of desktop real estate. I guess if I had it to do over again, I would buy the wireless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't work without it! This is an upgrade for me from the previous WACOM Tablet I used for at least six years. I wore the last one out enough to take it home for personal use. The new tablet and pen are indispensible. The larger tablet area is excellent. Profile is very slim and blends into workflow nicely and ergonomically. My only negative is it's hard to keep track of the pen: It's very easy to lose the pen as it's dark and rolls away and out of sight. Nice improvement could be to add a sharp color to distinguish it from the mess on any typical desk. I customized it with bright tape.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! I didn't used to use a Wacom till I started my new job. After tying to get use to it (because it does take a while to change from mouse to pen) I realized how much I've been missing. So I bought one for home. this product is quite awesome. I did try a Bamboo pen before but the intous 4 is just better. my only complaint to Wacom is that if you're already giving us a tablet make the active field te whole tablet not just a part. It's kind of a waste of space. But overall it's worth every penny. the pen sensitivity is awesome and the tips it comes with are very nice. Def a must have for graphic designers and illustrators. Well even editors and AE users.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I didn't know how much better it could b I have been using an Intuos2 for several years and recently it was giving me intermitant problems. It was old enough I decided I would simply upgrade and boy am I glad. The pen sensitivity is much better, the mouse works much better, the display panel by the buttons is great. I love the radial menu concept, the touch ring, and express keys. The menu express keys are not the kind of thing I normally get excited over but these are easily changed to work with different programs and I plan to do just that. I can see many ways they will help with work flow and productivity. I look forward to using this tablet through my busy season this year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING This product is amazing, I don't know why I was so stupid and waited so long to get it. Mostly what made me get it is the chiropractor, the mouse was killing me. The use of this pen is so accurate, and so fast, much faster than a mouse and way more accurate. It is so easy to use, I was intimidated at first, which is why I didn't get it early on, now feel like a fool for all the years I missed out on using it. I'm a fine artist, photographer and graphic designer. This is A MUST if you are any of those. I still found the command key on the key board quicker than the enlarge mode on the pen tho. The angle of the pen is good too, very natural to writing. Very fun and cool tool to have, a must buy!
