Litepanels LP MicroPro overview

  • 1Description

The Litepanels MicroPro LED light housing is a compact addition to the Litepanels LED family of lighting. This light will work for on-camera applications with small cameras, offering a small size and an adjustable head. The MicroPro offers substantially more illumination than the standard Micro, and will work with more cameras. Included with this kit are a gel set containing 1/4 correction, full correction, and diffusion filters, as well as a shoe mount and carrying bag.

Note: Power Supply is optional

Power Source
The MicroPro can be powered by either standard or rechargeable AA batteries, or be powered by a 5-16VDC source via an input jack by using the optional AC Power Adapter (which includes an International Plug Set). Litepanels part number is 900-5000, which works with both the LP-Micro and the LP-MicroPro. The LP-Micro and LP-MicroPro cannot be powered via an Anton Bauer 2-Pin D-Tap Power Cable. Please see Anton Bauer's ULHM-LED for this powering option.
Heat Free LED
This light uses LED technology which offers heat free operation only drawing 9 watts of power.
Daylight Balanced
The Micro is a 5600K daylight balance device with the option of using provided filters to warm the illumination or change to tungsten 3200K balancing.
Compact
Measuring less than 6" at its longest dimension this small light will easily work with small DV and other digital cameras.
Runtime
This light runs up to 1.5 hours on 6 AA batteries (HD Alkaline) and 5-6 hours on E2 lithium ion batteries.

    Litepanels LP MicroPro reviews

MicroPro LED On-Camera Light is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 101.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from LitePanel MicroLitePro While designed primarily as a video light, this light has many applications which make it worthy as a lighting source in still photography. With the dimmer control and mobile versatility, it can work lighting wonders with a camera that can perform well when shooting at an ISO of 6400 in low light situations. I really don't want to mess with the ambviance of the backround lighting, so I shoot at an ISO of 6400 and wash my subject with light from my LitePanel mini. It does amazing things and different filters make it even more amazing with a minimum of trials. What you see is what you get and often even better when you use a camera that can perform well at an ISO of 6400.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not quite what I expected I first looked at the little brother of this unit, the LP Micro. Reading reviews about it, I was concerned when there were comments regarding its flimsiness. So I splashed out approx an extra $200 for the LP Micro Pro, only to find that this unit is also, on first inspection, far from rugged. For $, for an on-camera light, I was at least expecting a metal casing. Not happening. All plastic body. I guess I should have read the specs in more detail. The dimmer is a great feature but it seems that I can turn the knob a few times before any light appears. The storage solution for the supplied gels does not protect them in any way - just attaches them over the battery cover on the rear of the light unit. Far from ideal. So, the solution for distribution of light is good, but the build quality, dimmer, and gel storage leave a lot to be desired.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MicroPro LED on Camera Light Spot On! I bought this for my husband to use with his professional video camera and he has found it to be extremely beneficial when shooting in low light situations, such as a dimly lit wedding reception. The hue of light it casts is very natural. One of its best features is that it is dimmable. I have also mounted the MicroPro on my DSLR camera and have had amazing results. I often shoot with a macro lens with the MicroPro lite panel being just inches away from the subject. Because you can dim the light, the photos are never blown out because it is too bright of a light. I use the MicroPro LED light in day light and at night to add light to any subject.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice light! Overall I really like this light. Self contained (no external battery is great), so no tether to a belt battery pack, but still allows external power if you want. Throw is good and provides sufficient light even in bright conditions, and dimmer is nice if you are close to your subject and want to dim it down a little. I don't mind the plastic, lightens it and it does not feel cheaply built. I put it on a noga arm to move it away from the top of my cam, and am happy with that. Also, b/c of the built in power, I can take it off the camera and clamp it to something else for a little extra light when needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from POWER, STURDY, AA BATTERIES TOO! 96 BRIGHT LEDS in a sturdy-built housing provide about 2x more light than the Micro and on test scene about 4x above 'just on'... plenty to reduce the gain by 6dB! Tested with 1/4 3200 and diffuser gels in both the MicroPro and Micro and my Sony HVR-Z5U. Powerful, tho fairly narrow beam for the newer wide lenses on 16x9 format cams, will fill well at 15' and more. newer cams process low light better which extends this reach. AA battery design can save your bacon in the field.. use lithium batteries for the longest run-time and standby life too. other battery pack options coming soon. Gels would be ezr to add/remove with an index tab on them. center one for the diffuser edge for the 3200 ones.. tho one could attach their own. will update my picky scribbles as i get more information worth sharing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Avoid this LED panel! This is a cheaply built, poorly conceived light source for use during video shooting. This unit is not exactly cheap and does not deliver the goods. The power setting button is extremely sensitive and does not allow to fine tune the light intensity very precisely. It is impossible to calibrate properly with your camera's aperture, shutter speed, or ISO setting. There is a lot of flicker at the lower end of the power setting too, which is strange for a light source supposed to be used for video shoots. The hot shoe adaptor provided is stiff and does not fit Nikon hot shoes at all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Light This light, with the diffuser that it comes with gives off a very nice, soft, adjustable light. It is interesting that it is daylight balanced (perhaps this is related to the LED style) since when I took the light outside, the subject had to be very close in order for the light to be picked up their face. I bet it works very well as a supplement to window light, inside! I am very happy with it still, because of how little heat it generates right above the camera and the nice quality of the light generated. It will prove very useful to me for some of those improvised interview settings, when you don't have time to set up a stand!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best camera LED light ever ! I first started using LP camera LED lights a couple of years ago with the mini system. It was great but to heavy for handheld camcorders. So I switched to the Micro last year, and when the MicroPro came along I bought it without thinking. I am amazed how much illumination it delivers ! Such a huge improvement since the Micro... Of course the MicroPro is bigger and a little heavier than the Micro, but it's just the right balance between size and illumination for my EX3. The MicroPro is definitely the best camera light ever !
