Serving as a slimmer alternative to the manufacturer's original lens cover, the ASCN-3 Soft Cap from AquaTech is compatible with the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200mm f/2G ED VR II, AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II, and AF-S NIKKOR 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II lenses. It protects the front element from dust, dirt, and scratches when the lens is not in use. The cap is crafted from waterproof, flexible silicone rubber, and fits snugly on the end of the lens without touching the front element's surface. Additionally, it can be used in conjunction with AquaTech's SoftHood collapsible fabric hood.

ASCN-3 Soft Cap for Select Nikon AF-S NIKKOR Lenses from 200mm f/2 to 400mm f/4 is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Contacts lens surface Despite what the manufacturer states, this cap does contact the surface of the lens. Used on a 200 f/2 for a while and when I removed it one time I noticed a very distinct ring of oil/residue on the outer perimeter of the glass that perfectly matched the ridge on the bottom of the lens cap. Now, the cap makes a perfect cup coaster on my office desk. The lip is perfect for keeping water off my desk. For my lens, I did purchase a plastic lens cap to replace it. It is the one with the plastic handle that uses the small o-rings. That caps works much better than this one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from very solid seal I bought this cap for a Nikon 200-400mm f/4 lens. It seals the end of the lens better than any plastic cap in existence and stays in place. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is that contrary to what they say on the Aquatech video on youtube, the cap does touch the front lens element when fully inserted and will produce some smudging on the outer perimeter of the lens glass. I do not find this bothersome as the smudge is at the extreme borders and will not influence picture quality. Still, Aquatech sould not say it doesn't touch the lens because it does.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from One expensive piece of rubber, slightly too large! I bought this lens cap for my Nikon 200-400 lens. The original covering supplied by Nikon is ridiculous and is too big and bulky to be of practical use in the field. I own a AquaTech cap for my Nikon 500 F4, the ASCN 5, and it fits perfectly. The ASCN-3 is expensive for a round 11 cm rubber cover, and it is a very tight fit on the 200-400 lens. You have to push the cap in on one end and work your way around to get it to stay on. Not at all the type of fit I get from my other AquaTech soft cap, which slips on effortlessly and stays on. Because it is a $40 piece of rubber that you have to get physical with to get it to fit on the Nikon 200-400 F4, I would only rate it as fair. Get it together AquaTech!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent solution to original sack A similar cap should have been included with the 300mm f/2.8 VR II by Nikon. Very convenient for use in the field and carrying the lens around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Solution this lens cap is totally what the 300mm f/2.8 Nikon should be supplied with

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fits VERY well with new Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 180-400mm f/4E TC1 I've got 3 of these for my 200 f2, 300 2.8 and 200-400 f4, and on ALL of those lenses the fit is VERY tight. You can push it in, and it stays, but the size IS a bit too large. That makes it more work to put on than it should be. But very interestingly, this lens cap DOES fit better on my new Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 180-400mm f/4E TC1.4 FL ED VR lens. Note that this 180-400 lens has an opening that is almost half an inch wider, and I'd say the fit on the 180-400 lens is almost perfect. Now - when I sell my 200-400 f4 lens, I think I'll keep this soft cap that I was using on it, and keep it for my new lens. Oh, and if you're curious, here's a comparison of all 4 of those lenses

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect gift! Gave this as a gift to a friend. He is VERY happy. Takes up less room in the case, and provides all the protection that the standard sock does. I'm going to buy one for myself!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Awesome concept, but slightly too big for Nikon primes I bought two of these, one for my Nikon 800mm f/5.6 FL ED VR and 300mm f/2.8 VR II. They both are slightly too big to fit correctly and need some forcing to put on and they bubble up in the center because of being slightly too big. The idea is great, but the fit is not. I would pass on these until Aquatech refines the sizing for Nikon primes.
