Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 overview

  • 1Description

The AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED Lens from Nikon is wide-angle zoom lens designed for the DX (APS-C) format sensor found on many Nikon DSLRs, but can also be used on certain full-frame models utilizing their crop-sensor mode. As it stands, this lens will project an angle of view equivalent to a 15-36mm lens in the FX or full frame format.

The primary user of a lens such as the 10-24mm Zoom-Nikkor will be one who finds standard kit lenses not quite wide enough for their tastes when photographing landscapes or interior views. An added benefit of wide angle optics is their ability to focus extremely close for a unique perspective on macro objects as close as 9.5" (24cm).

This ultra-wide angle lens incorporates some of the best of Nikon's technical accomplishments in optical engineering. This 10-24mm lens features two extra-low dispersion (ED) lenses and three aspherical lens elements to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations. Nikon coats their glass with their own Super Integrated Coating that makes light transmission more efficient, virtually eliminating ghosting and flare.

Focusing is facilitated by a speedy and quiet Silent Wave Motor augmented by an internal focusing design that eliminates changes in barrel protrusion. Full time manual focusing override is available with the M/A focusing switch.

Wide-Angle Zoom Lens
For DX format DSLRs, this lens offers a broad and versatile wide-angle range which is the equivalent of a 15-36mm focal length range in the 35mm format
Silent Wave Motor AF System
The Silent Wave AF system provides fast, accurate and near-silent AF action
Internal Focus (IF)
Design allows faster, smoother autofocusing and eliminates changes in lens barrel length for consistent handling.
Two Extra-low Dispersion Glass Elements
For superior sharpness and color correction by effectively minimizing chromatic aberration.
Three Aspherical Lens Elements
Aspherical lens elements virtually eliminate coma and other types of lens aberration, even when used at the widest aperture.
Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC)
Enhances light transmission efficiency and offers superior color consistency and reduces flare.

    Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 reviews

AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED Lens is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 389.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from AF-S NIKKOR 10-24mm exchange I had so looked forward to this lens which has been highly recommended for the crop-sensor Nikon 7100. It took two people to attach it to my camera. Which was very scary. Two people to take it back off. What a great disappointment! I called B&H immediately and we determined that the tolerance must be off or it might have just passed quality control without being properly tested. B&H e-mailed the proper return label and info and within a week I now have a lens that attaches easily and is ready for use. I have ordered a number of items from them over the years and find that customer service is excellent and I am happy with the products.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Put me in the oven and call me done! The Nikon 10-24 is a beautiful lens and will ad a whole new dimension to your work. When people say how did you do that, I just say, Voodoo Magic. The lens is solid, very sharp and beautifully wide with no aberrations. The variable focal length gives just the right amount of creative latitude. My greatest wish would be to have still lenses be like my motion picture lenses... hold one fast T stop throughout the zoom range. Of course those darn lenses cost $12K. You won't go wrong with this lens, Nikon's pro quality...... and like I say, your customers will think you've got voodoo magic!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as I suspected I knew that this lens would fit the bill for me. However even I underestimated the clarity of the glass. While it does not compare to the build of some of my older film camera lenses it does remain consistent with the Nikon quality I have been use to for decades. As a fine art and landscape photographer I find the range of wide angle something I was missing in my bag. I must admit I am a wide angle junkie, and that means I tend to shoot more towards the 10mm end than the 24mm end of the range.I only wish that the 72mm filters I have fit this lens. But I do feel that the trade off of needing new filters is an easy thing to swallow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You can't go wrong This lens provides excellent image quality and value. I was a little worried about the build quality based on some other reviewers comments. I think it is a solid, well built lens. I don't bang my equipment around so I see no problems with this holding up to normal use. The lens is very sharp, colors look good and I can see no vignetting at its widest setting. I borrowed a friends Tokina 12-24 and I found it to not be as sharp and had some significant vignetting. The extra 2mm at the widest setting makes a very big difference. I think this lens will be the one on my camera most of the time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens But Not For Me I ordered this lens for a trip to the southwest after reading many reviews. I tried it out and it lived up to all the great reviews I read. I especially loved the deep color in my shots. However, after thinking about my purchase, I decided this is a lens I would not use enough to justify the purchase price. One of the places I had planned to use it is the Grand Canyon. I read somewhere that a really wide angle lens is not a good choice for the canyon because it makes the landscape seem father back and, therefore, does not give as much detail. I called B&H to get information on the return of this lens. Luke, the person I talked with, could not have been nicer. That's why I will always use B&H for my purchases.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A year later and still fun. But ready for more. Ive used this lens for almost a year now on my D5100 and have really enjoyed it. I even tried using on a rented D750 and was happy with it then. Of course with it on the D750 there are serious amounts of vignetting up until about 20mm. However on the 5100 there isnt any. I would consider this worth the price for an entry level wide angle. Its quick, its sharp, and its smooth. My most recent use was shooting the Perseid meteor shower in Rainer national park where it struggled a bit on the D5100. It was extremely dark and had trouble gathering enough light at 3.5 and 6400 ISO with a 25 second shutter. I ended up with a lot of noise in my pictures but the shots otherwise came out well. In any other situation it works great. Its much higher quality than the Tamron one. See pictures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A New Way To Capture The World When I went to Yosemite Park a few years back, I hated the 18-55mm that came with my camera since I missed out on a lot of good shots. So with my new planned RV trip coming up going through Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and finishing up in Colorado, I just have to get this lens. I tested it out last week in Vegas going to Red Rock and Valley of Fire and the lens is incredible! The lens works indoor too as I went to the Atomic Testing Museum and was able to take a lot of pictures including a replica of the bomb that was fitted onto the plane for one of the testings. It is heavier than the cheap plastic lens that came with the camera but it's worth it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible performance at wide angle I am photography enthusiast and love wide angle HDR photography. After using fish eye ultra wide angle lens for a while, I was badly looking for a wide angle lens with high contrast, high resolution (in MTF Curves lingo) gear. I was ready to compromise on extra wider angle that fish eye provides.I zeroed down on this lens after comparing it with AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED. Latter looked bit pricey and starting f-stop of 14mm kind of turned me down.I used my lens on a road trip to Las Vegas and Page, Arizona and throughly enjoyed photographing. I did shoot dazzling night cityscapes of Vegas as well as vivid colors of natural wonders like Horseshoe bend, Rainbow bridge monument and Antelope canyon. I give 100% marks to the gear. I am a delighted end user. Thanks to Nikon for making such a fabulous lens and big thank to B&H for shipping it to me just in time.
