Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED Overview

Covering ultra-wide to wide-angle, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED from Nikon is a 15-36mm-equivalent DX-format lens well-suited for landscape, cityscape, interior, and architectural photography. A wide-angle zoom designed for DX-format sensors, this 10-24mm lens produces a 15-36mm equivalent focal length range.
Three aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.
Two extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.
A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focusing design is also used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED Reviews

Not A Great Lens

I've been using this for two full years now, I shoot both photos and video with it on my Nikon D500. I'm not impressed with the picture quality, there is a lot of blur on the sides. This is obviously expected with a wide angle, but the quality is really poor...like really poor. I expect a name brand, especially nikkor, to have better quality on the more distorted parts of the image. Picture fringe is also poor. The price of this lens is pretty high for the end results, better to go with Sigma like so many have suggested.

I purchased this lens in june of 2018 of last year in used a few time and the lens barrel started to wiggle side to side.  Sent it to nikon for repair. The barrel is fixed but now images are out of focus on left side  and images  have flare  and glare at any highlight area as if internal elements are dirty. Have used Nikon for 40+ years and very disappointed  in their decline of quality.

Perfect For What I Wanted

I do a lot of different "projects" with my photography, including real estate work I do for a few local realtors. I use a Nikon D7100 and this lens is exactly what I wanted. It allows me to get some real nice images inside at 10mm (15mm equivalent). Since I use the HDR approach with my interiors and shoot at f8 most of the time, I don't need the more expensive f2.8 lens. This lens works with the exteriors as well. I process in Lightroom 6 so I can make adjustments using the transform tool to get everything nice and straight. The lens is on the camera most of the time even when I am doing other types of work. I also use a Nikon D610 which is use with the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 and know I can use the 10-24 lens on that camera as well. The fact that I had a $250 gift certificate made the purchase a little easier!

Found a clean clean used lens at a local shop during a sidewalk sale day. Shooting on my D7100 body and getting great color, sharpness, fast and accurate focus, and wide dynamic range. Very pleased with my purchase.

It is a bit slow but, very good super wide angle zoom.

Buying Nikon lens is a gamble, I hardly ever got a good one the very first time, but due to B&H excellent exchange policy I always finally ended up with one which was good enough. I had 3 of these lenses before and while they were acceptable none of them was really very good. This particular copy I got is the best first time around and better than the previous 3 copies I had before. Stopped down to f/5.6 is acceptable and f/8 it is very good throughout the whole range. The Tokina 11-20 f/2.8 is definitely a better lens and faster but very heavy and needs 82mm filters. All in all I am satisfied with the lens.

I have been playing with this for 3 weeks now and love how both exterior and interior photographs come out - the interior shots capture almost the entire room, very good quality.

question

If I were to use this lens on Nikon D2X, would I still get the 10-24mm or would it translate to 15-36mm? Thank you!
Asked by: Anonymous
This lens would have the 35mm equivalent focal length of 15-36mm on the D2X, or any other DX format camera.

question

I have a Tamron 10-24mm lens on a Nikon D5100 and I am unhappy with lack of sharpness of focus when doing interior shots for real estate listings. Will I see a significant improvement with the Nikon 10-24 lens?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes you will see an improvement of the sharpness and contrast and color accuracy with the Nikon version of this lens. It is very sharp and overall a very popular and well reviewed lens with our customers.

question

Will this 10-24mm work with the D700 Body?
Asked by: Anonymous
That lens is a DX lens. It can be used on a D700 body but will crop the image by 1.5 times just like you were using a DX camera like a D7100. The default setting on the camera is to do this. You can over ride to shoot full frame with DX lenses but then you will get a vignette around the image.

question

What's the best wide angle lense for a Nikon D7100?
Asked by: Bryan D.
For it's price range and for a DX body, I've been very happy with the 10-24mm Nikkor

question

Is this lens good enough for astrophotography? Shall I get this or the Nikon 12-24mm which has a lower f stop?
Asked by: Kashmita S.
Either would be a good choice. Maximum aperture difference would not be critical for this kind of work, but having a 10mm lens can be more useful for a more dramatic sky.

question

I was wondering if this Nikkor 10-24mm lens on my Nikon D500 camera would work like the Nikkor 10.5mm fisheye lens. What I am asking is would I need to get both lens for my camera or would the results be about the same. Would it be alright to get both lens or would I just need one or the other. Thank You!
Asked by: peter cologgi
The 10-24 lens is designed to have far less distortion than that of the 10.5mm fisheye.
