    Westcott 1707 reviews

Illuminator 48x72" Diffuser (White) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Westcott diffuser This is a great diffuser, allowing you to shoot at high noon and still get a soft light. It's very portable, but it is a pain to fold back up if you don't know how to do it. Also, the metal band inside can turn when trying to fold it back up and if this happens the diffuser won't open up flat and taut. Other than that, it's really a great product for location shoots. Can also be used as a background if lit properly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great diffuser, but not on a windy day We bought this diffuser after replacing a homemade one. We use it for location portraits, mostly bridals. It is, like the description says, lightweight easy to use and folds small enough that it carries easily. It works great, however the flexable framing makes it hard to control on a windy day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great and versatile diffuser! Great portable BIG illuminator. I buy as much quality Westcott equipment as possible, and this reflector is built to last. Only issue? Learning to collapse into case, YouTube to the rescue. I learned of this reflector at an awesome Jason Lanier workshop where he demonstrated how with one diffuser and one light you have tremendous light-shaping flexibility.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from pretty much as described its a good compactible diffuser. i thought i'd read that it could stand up on its own (which it cant). it definitely will need someone to hold it or needs to be propped up against a wall (but not on a windy day.) a wee challenge to fold but seems to collapse into its bag with a bit of effort.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from excellent diffuser works very well in outdoor portrait situations to soften direct sunlight. Also useful for indoor portrait to shoot one or two flash units through to provide softbox type soft lighting. On the downside, it is very bulky to handle, and difficult to fold up until you can practice it a lot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value. A must have! This is a great diffuser and it's a must have for semi-indoor and spotty locations where wind isn't much of a factor. It's build quality is good and is quite compact when folded. Here's the double edged sword: It's most valuable for shooting portraits outdoors, but due to it's size it can be challenging to stabilize the diffuser due to the wind. The product image shows that the edge bevel is white - I received one with a black edge. It wouldn't be so much of an issue, however in the event I need to clone the scrim out, the black edge makes it harder. The other thing is it can be hard to fold back to its compact size. Sometimes I'll have the magic touch and it folds very easily. MOST OF THE TIME I'm struggling to do fold it together. I also own it's companion, the wescott arm, which leaves me desiring something better, but photographers who are interested in the arm & scrim OUTDOORS should know that the scrim is so large that wind can easily destabilize it. Like many others, I wish the arm had a cross section to stabilize both ends. Anyway, I digress.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent for the money I bought this mainly to create white background headshots in the field as well as for diffusion. It is plenty BIG. It doesn't seem to be very durable compared to other more expensive diffusers but them it costs less too. Perhaps it will surprise me and last for many years. Only time will tell.
