Ambient Recording ATE 208 SET overview

  • 1Description

The ATE 208 Emesser from Ambient Recording is a compact condenser microphone that converts any standard boom mic into an M/S stereo mic system. The Emesser has a Figure-8 pickup pattern and operates on standard 48V phantom power. The mic is designed to deliver an enhanced dynamic range and it has a custom-tailored frequency response that's designed to match the acoustic pattern of a typical boom mic at 90°.

The mic has a standard TA3M connector, and comes with a Y-loom cable that allows you to connect the Emesser and any standard 3-pin XLR mic, and output both mics to a balanced 5-pin XLR output. This allows you to output both mono and stereo signals. The mic set also comes with a mounting clip and rubber rings, a foam windscreen, and a zippered carrying case.

Ambient Recording ATE 208 SET reviews

ATE 208 SET Emesser Figure-8 Microphone with Accessories is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must for every field recordist This microphone can upgrade any main boom mic on documentaries or realistic movies to an m-s stereo configuration. The mic's self noise is really exceptable considering the use is recording ambiance sound and not low spl's in a studio. The mic clip provided is not meant to be mounted on microphones thicker then 19mm. I broke mine trying. The foam provided cannot be used in the form of mic on mic. Its just doesn't fit. Also don't forget to get proper cabling like 5pin boom cable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Mic for MS Stereo Techniques! This is an excellent microphone. The sound is very clear, with low background noise, it's extremely useful, small, lightweight and versatile, and it has a very good cost-benefits price. I love this microphone! I've been using it at direct recordings for documentaries, broadcast and films in general. With this kit, you can transform every shotgun microphone in a MS stereo system, with the advantage of use it inside the zepelim system at the fish pole. Then, you can easily make stereo recordins in direct! Of course, you have to practice and be careful to record the sound without manipulation noises (I've been using some elastics to fix the figure-8 at the shotgun, reducing the vibrations, with good results). But, remember, you have to transform the MS signal in a stereo image. You can do this after recorded the sound, with a lot of audio softwares stereo image plugins or manually (it's recommended to study the MS Stereo Recording Technique to prevent errors). If you are unsure about the audio finalization process or don't have time to do this at the posproduction, some recorders and mixers can process a stereo image at field. At last, but not at least, it's extremely recommended to buy this Y Cable: Remote Audio 5-Pin Stereo XLR Female to Dual XLR Male Y-Cable! It's an essential accessory to use this kit! I think it should be included at the kit. I will explain: The Figure-8 Microphone has a male mini XLR plug. The standard shotguns microphones have a XLR plug. Then, with this kit, Ambient Recording included a very useful adapter, a female XLR-5pin cable, with standard male XLR plug and a mini male XLR plug. This two plugs will be inside the zepelim system, connected to the two mics. At the other side you have to use the Y cable to connect the 5-pin XLR plug at the two standards female XLRs plugs at the recorder. By default, using MS Stereo Technique, you may record the Shotgun (hypercardiode) at the Left channel, and the Emesser Figure-8 at the Right channel (it will help to transform the signals at a stereo image).
