Panasonic Lumix G Vario 7-14mm f/4 Reviews

Love Ultra-Wide

Love ultra-wide but could not justify the cost of purchasing the Olympus 7-14mm pro. This Panasonic M43 lens is great! Acceptable level of distortion for an ultra-ultra-wide, great color and sharpness.

Outstanding Lens

After I bought my Panasonic GX9 camera I wanted a wide angle lens to give me the needed coverage for my city and scenic photography. It totally fits the bill, and it is always left on my camera. With my 40 years as a pro photographer... it still makes me “plan my shots” for the highest impact of those images. I highly recommend it..!!

It's a great lens. Very wide on the GH5s, and shoots nice usable shots even in very little light.

My Dream Lens

I've been eyeing this lens for a couple years now. I finally caved and bought it. Boy, is this lens dream boat city. It's the widest lens known to the Lumix series (without a speedbooster). The warped edge looks pretty cool if that's what you're going for. The automatic focus is fantastic for my YouTube videos. The focus in general is super sharp for all of my documentary footage. This is my favorite lens so far. <3

I always go back to this lens

Even though the Olympus 12-40 is on my camera about 80% of the time, just about all my photos that I think are WOW end up being from this lens. For somebody who shoots a lot of landscapes, this lens is a must.

Great lens.  Impossibly Tiny.

Great lens, and it's impossibly small for such a feature-rich lens. Everything works as expected. Nice sharp images, but quite a lot of CA outdoors.

Ideal For Sit Down Interviews

I've been using this lens with both a GH4 and GH5 for the past two years and I find it's ideal for interview settings. I typically shoot in 3840 x 2160 and this lens allows me to get the camera fairly close for a two-shot, shoot wider that what I need, crop up to 300% in FCPX and still export in 1920 x 1080 while maintaining a pristine image. It's my go-to lens for interviews and it hasn't failed me yet.

Can you put filters on this lens since it is so wide?
Asked by: Jehan
Unfortunately for now there are no options to directly attach filters to this lens. An avenue you could take is getting a matte box and filters that attach to that.

question

Where can I find a replacement front lens cap for this lens?
Asked by: Jason D.
Unfortunately we do not carry the replacement lens cap for the 7-14mm lens, but I was able to find the name of the lens cap: Panasonic VFC4412. You would have to search for that item elsewhere to find a replacement for your lens.

question

We are using this lens on the GH4 for video but need a Neutral Density Filter so we can stop it down on bright days. What would recommend? Even if it's a Matte Box
Asked by: Anonymous
Adding to the question.... so if I buy this lens I also need to purchase the filter ring adapter, the filter holder, and filters? That doubles the cost of the lens. The Olympus is looking to be a better option.

question

When mounted on a GH4 and filming video, is there geometric correction available for the distortion of this lens?
Asked by: Anonymous
There are post production plug-ins available for removing video lens distortion. It is a process and be prepared to do some work. We suggest starting with Adobe's lens distortion removal software.http://adobe.ly/1p8uQiH
