This is a 45" Westcott Soft Silver Umbrella. Umbrellas soften, broaden, and diminish the light output of any tungsten or flash light source. Umbrellas with a white interior will soften and weaken light more than an umbrella with a silver lining.

Choosing umbrella size is determined by the size of the subject, and the strength of the light supply being used. Choosing an umbrella surface is as subjective as choosing a paint and brush.

Westcott umbrellas are rated safe for use with lights up to 1000 Watts.
This size is perfect for a 1-2 person head, or head-to-waist shot, or a 4x6 ft product setup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick Outdoor Fill Purchased this as a quick way to soften stobe lighting when using the Wescott Tri-flash holder outdoors. The combo affords me nice light using 100 ISO up to 15' away. The triple flash also lets me balance fill w/daylight in full sun conditions with the option for using E-TTL, if desired. Please notice from the attached photo that I did not mount $1500 worth of flashes to the umbrella shaft! I modified a Manfrotto QR plate w/stub to use the Tri-flash brackets more secure threaded mount. This helps too insure that my strobes don't change position, or worse, accidentally crash to the ground! Also, weight your stand outdoors as umbrellas will act as sails in the wind! Finally, use your flashes WA diffusion panel to distribute the light around the umbrella evenly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic; Very Well Made These are a great value. I purchased them with the B&H education discount. They were a great deal, and I highly recommend them. They are very well made and work just as any silvered umbrella should. The only possible complaint is that the shaft is hollow, so clamps can leave a dent in it. It would be nice if the shaft was solid metal, but that would also make it cost more. These are a great value, but you do get what you pay for with the hollow (but otherwise very well made) shaft.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool to add to your kit. I own three of these umbrellas and they offer a great quality of light. You get the punch of a traditional silver umbrella with the softness of a white umbrella. I've used them for head shots (I love the catch lights umbrellas produce) to waist level shots with good effect. Unlike a softbox or a strip light control is minimal with these (and any) umbrellas. Aside from that these are great additions to anyone's lighting kit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would definitely purchase Wescott umbrellas for future nee This is a well-made umbrella with a fiberglass frame that should enhance durability. It is definitely better quality than some of the cheaper umbrellas I have. It came with a see-through plastic sleeve that clearly identifies its size and properties and closes with a plastic snap. All in all, a very good product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good piece of equipment to add to you lighting equipment. I usually use white umbrellas in my studio work but I often have to add a touch of direct light to my subject in order to create more contrast. I decided to make a change and work with soft silver umbrella and I'm glad I did. I'm vey satisfied with it and it meets my expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for the money This are excellent umbrellas for a budget. Of course, umbrellas are never the priciest of modifiers, but these are excellent for their moderate price. My only real problem with these is that the hollow main shaft is prone to denting when an umbrella holder is tightened too much, but then again, a solid metal shaft would have elevated the price and the dents don't really affect performance. These are a solid product, and I'm sure all other sizes are equally good. I would be confident purchasing these again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Light Bought this in addition to a Westcott XL Rapid Box Octabank and could not be happier with the light. The Westcott Skylux LEDs produce a lovely, daylight balanced light and these modifiers help add depth and diffusion. You get what you pay for meaning-- yes they're expensive but worth the $$ if you have it to spend. Otherwise call the guys at B&H they'll help you pick out a nice light setup.
