Westcott 2006 Overview

This is a 45" Westcott Soft Silver Umbrella. Umbrellas soften, broaden, and diminish the light output of any tungsten or flash light source. Umbrellas with a white interior will soften and weaken light more than an umbrella with a silver lining.

Choosing umbrella size is determined by the size of the subject, and the strength of the light supply being used. Choosing an umbrella surface is as subjective as choosing a paint and brush.

Westcott umbrellas are rated safe for use with lights up to 1000 Watts.
This size is perfect for a 1-2 person head, or head-to-waist shot, or a 4x6 ft product setup.

Westcott 2006 Reviews

Perfect size for my needs.

I purchased this umbrella for a shoot in a large building with high ceilings for a shoot of a large group of 30 people. All 30 were lit like I wanted. Large enough to spread enough light but small enough to handle on location.

smaller than expected

I was looking for a specular umbrella. I also wanted something about 4'. This seemed to fit the bill, but it a actually only measures about 41 across when opened. The fabric is decently reflective, although it's a bit lightweight. It seems to function well but the latch is a bit flimsy. Overall, not bad for the money

question

Where is B&H getting that this umbrella is safe for up to 1000 watts? Westcott's specifications web page for this item says the maximum is 300 watts.
Asked by: Jacob
I have seen other stores say the same thing as B&H rated at 1000 watts. My lights are 640 watt strobes and being a strobe there is no heat to speak of because the flash is so quick. My shoots will typically be around 300 hundred shots with zero issues. Continuous lights or hot lights as they are commonly called might be another thing.
