Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1 Overview

An exceedingly fast lens, the Nokton 50mm f/1.1 from Voigtlander is a versatile normal-length prime for M-mount rangefinder cameras. The bright f/1.1 maximum aperture is well-suited to working in difficult lighting conditions, and also affords extensive control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques. Additionally, a 10-blade diaphragm is featured, which helps to produce a smooth bokeh quality, and the manual focus design enables working with subjects as close as 3.3' away.

Exceptionally fast f/1.1 maximum aperture helps control depth of field for shallow depth of field shooting, and also benefits working in difficult lighting conditions.
High refractive index glass is used to reduce field curvature, distortion, and spherical aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness.
Manual focus design enables a minimum focusing distance of 3.3'.
A 10-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Is it possible to use this lens with a Leica cl ?
Asked by: Demetris
A lens with an M mount such as the Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1 would need an adapter in order to use it on the Leica CL camera. I would recommend this adapter: https://bhpho.to/3aAaFek

Does anyone know it's T-stop wide open?
Asked by: Anonymous
I haven't seen anyone tested the T value on this lens. I guess easily T1.4 or T1.8

Has anyone used this as well as the 7artisans 50mm f1.1? Is this worth the extra $330?
Asked by: Suhair
I have owned both. The Nokton replaced the 7 Artisans for two significant reasons: First, the 7 Artisans obstructed the swinging meter arm on my M5, and so couldn't be used on that body. Second, even the thinnest mount filters caused vignetting on the 7 Artisans. Forget using a lens hood! I also preferred the rendering of the Nokton as well. I will say that the build quality of the 7 Artisans was good, but not quite up to that of the Nokton. So, even apart from my issues on the M5, I would still say that yes, the Nokton is definitely worth it!

Is this for digital or film

Is this for digital or film
Asked by: John Paul
You can use this lens on any M-mount film or digital camera, but be advised that this lens has a very characteristic look that will be very pronounced on digital—the center of the image (when in focus obviously) is extremely sharp, but the edges are visibly softer, with a slight swirl to the blur. The result is what you could call a dream-like image, which can be pleasing, but if you are looking for edge-to-edge sharpness this is not the lens for you.

question

Does this lens have a single coating or multi coating?
Asked by: Jason
Unless otherwise specified, all Voigtlander lenses are multicoated. If you are thinking of purchasing this lens, I would suggest you reconsider. It's quite soft and the minimal focusing distance is more than 3 feet. Another version, an f1.2 Aspherical, will soon be available and will be optically much superior, I'm certain.

question

will this lens work on a Bessa R4a...rangefinder ?
Asked by: Antonio
The Bessa R4a accepts Leica M-mount lenses, which is the mount that this lens has. There should be no problem. Hope you enjoy this lens. It's capable of some creative imaging, though sharpness is not its strong suit.
