Akai Professional LPK25 overview

  • 1Description

The LPK25 from Akai is a USB-MIDI 25-key mini keyboard controller that is a perfect fit for use with a laptop computer. It measures less than 13 inches across, weighs less than a pound and will easily fit into a laptop case, backpack or messenger bag for extreme portability.

Keyboard players who want to work with software on their computer will find that the LPK25 gives their laptop the keys they need to express themselves anywhere. DJs can use the controller to trigger loops and samples in a live situation.

The controller contains an arpeggiator, which steps through chords automatically, assisting musicians with creating quick melodic ideas. Sustain, octave up and down, tap tempo controls and 4 memory banks for programming and recalling settings round out the easy-to-learn layout.

The LPDK25 works plug and play with Mac and Windows software and requires no driver installation or wall power for operation.

    Akai Professional LPK25 reviews

LPK25 - USB Laptop Performance Keyboard is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 61.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from good quality/price, only 1 snafu Great compactness and sturdy build. Mini keys are actually easy to play/cooperative with proper piano playing. Tight, springy resistance. Relatively good velocity response. Biggest drawback is mini-usb connector that doesn't maintain a solid connection. Moving the unit (sometimes just by playing) can disrupt the connection, even though it's still plugged in. You then have to wiggle the mini-usb connector or unplug/replug it to reestablish the connection. Sustain pedal input would be nice for proper piano-style expression, but sustain button helps out when programming. Make sure your sequencer sends midi-clock out to sync the arp in external sync mode.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great inst. but AKAI s/w program is bad The keyboars is great. but the installation CD they gave doens't work on WIN 7.. I guess it needs some driver which is missing or so. In the product description AKAI said you do not need to have a driver.. it's plug and play device.. but with WIN 7 its not plug and play.. did lot of research on google to find right driver for AKAI LPK but didn't find one for this product .. Btw I have WIN 7 enterprize edition and my laptop is high end.. So I did a trick to download arturia(open source program for MIDI keyboards) on my system and that works perfectly great with this product. overall this product is great.. although its not like normal keyboard but you can still play your finger fine

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Price = Quality As an animator I learned that you get what you pay for. I bought the keyboard so I could make simple scores for animations. For a cheaper midi keyboard it is simple and nice. I had no problems with the connection and installation. And there is no annoying delay. It works very well. What I don't like is the size and the key weight. If you have bigger fingers I would look to something with bigger keys. Also when pressing the key the lack of weight just feels awkward. I would not recommend this for serious composers. If you need something simple and cheap then it is a great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A keyboard that lives by its name! I purchased this product for use with Finale in a class I was taking. Compared to portable controllers I've used in the past which were difficult to use because of a lack of rigidity, this controller was a cinch! The perfect size to take on the road, the keys are real keys, and the install was easy. I was affronted by the MIDI software that runs it, it's kind of difficult to understand unless you know what you're doing. Also the arpeggio function is hard to get exactly right. Once you've figured those two things out, there's really only one fault with this product. You can't sustain while changing octaves. So this keyboard is perfect for travel, not so much for a lot of notation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple, yet effective Bought this to use with VST drums in recording software. Works pretty good, keys are a little small; but the upside to this is that it is small enough to store in a drawer instead of taking up space on the desktop. Seems pretty durable compared to the M-Audio controllers that I tested at the local @ (those seemed like thin, cheap plastic). Still haven't figured out how to assign different drum sounds to individual keys on the keyboard, so don't know if that is done via the software or if you can program the keyboard itself. Bottom line is that this works for what I need it to do and is easy to store. Worth the money and B&H had it $20 cheaper than anywhere else with free shipping!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 25 Reasons To Buy I am not a musician, but I bought this 25 key mini-midi keyboard because I mess with audio programs. I didn't know how to evaluate it. It was easy to use, just plugged it in and started playing (well kind of playing). Then I had a musician friend try it. I was afraid that because it was so small and inexpensive, he would criticize it. He immediately started playing (really playing) and we both were impressed. I asked how the keys felt, he said they felt pretty good, but would take a little getting used to. Please remember, this is an inexpensive unit, not a master musicians mega keyboard. It is really small and portable: easy to carry, easy to store. If you have large hands, it may be an issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Keyboard! I use this keyboard to make beats and record short riffs when I am at school or traveling. It's a great keyboard. The velocity sensitive keys are a great bonus to the keyboard for a price. There is nothing I don't like about it. However, whenever I use the arpeggiator it's always set to a default tempo. Not the last tempo I had it at. Kind of annoying, but then again, I never use the arpeggiator so it's not a big deal. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good starter keyboard, or any traveling musician. Great product! It's also purely USB powered. I really love this keyboard!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not working for me Received LPK25 and tried to get some music happening. A good friend bought one and said it was great, he runs it through his mac with GB. Thought the quality seemed pretty good, ordered mine a week or two later and plugged in to USB on IBM laptop. I run Audacity to record my songs and have hours of good recordings behind me. The AKAI folks responded with an email suggesting I try ... trial version....Tell people the truth it seems with a PC you need a $700 program to use a $ piece of gear, or better yet a $1400 mac.Not sure what to do, past return date at this point and can not afford to BUY either of the solutions that will fix my problem. So much for plug and play...Seems like it could have been easier.
